The Tragic Death of Jonathan Ferrell The Tragic Death of Jonathan Ferrell

09-17-2013 , 07:17 PM
So, this is a story that got mentioned in the Unchained racism thread. Background: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-24130519

Black dude crashes his car at 2:30am, goes to nearby house for help, knocks on door. White woman answers thinking it's her husband, sees him, shuts the door, freaks the **** out and calls 911 saying someone's trying to break into her home. Police arrive and kill him when he runs towards them. The officer who shot him has already been arrested for voluntary manslaughter.

Starting this thread because the 911 call was released and should result in some lolz (can listen to it here) and I don't want continuing discussion of this to derail the Unchained thread, whose main purpose is (and should remain) laughing at racists.

He was shot 10 times? **** voluntary manslaughter, that's murder.

Also, line on old racist idiot lady being a rabid consumer of right wing media is about -10000.

911 Call Shows Charlotte, N.C., Mom Terrified of Unarmed Football Player

Quote:
"There's a guy breaking in my front door -- trying to kick it down," she told the operator. "Oh god. Oh my god."

The woman, who was alone in the house with her sleeping child, told the 911 operator that the stranger approached her front door and she opened it, thinking it was her husband coming home from work, and then slammed it shut when she saw the man.

The opening of the door set off the alarm on her home, and the man began yelling for her to turn off the alarm, she told the operator.

The woman was frantic about how to defend herself if he attempted to come inside.

"He's not in the house, he's in the front yard yelling," she told the operator. "I can't believe I opened the door. What the f**k is wrong with me. My husband has a gun and I can't find it."
Responsible gun owners ITT; if the police didn't take care of it, she would have!

wtf does that mean if you have a drug in your system you can be shot no questions asked while unarmed , are police such cowards that the only way to deal with a unknown is to pump 10 rounds into them. I guess if you get in car wreck don't run to police or you will be killed by the cowards behind the badges. Panic , fear that's is where we are at now this stupid lady freaking out instead of helping a crash victim , I hope she wrecks and no one helps her for days.

And my city and its universities are back in the news just after FSU had a racist social media incident.

I think some posters mistakenly thought you meant the toxicology report of the victim instead of the shooter.

Is it better if you pump 10 rounds into a drunk guy running at you?

It doesn't seem unreasonable for a woman home alone to be frightened by someone unexpectedly coming to the door at 2:30 am and yelling in the front yard after she shuts the door on him.
09-17-2013 , 07:57 PM
This is just sad.

Calling the cops is fine. Saying you would shoot the guy if you could find your gun, not so much. Let alone telling the 911 operator that he was trying to break in when he wasn't, which I'm sure contributed to the behavior of psycho cop murderer guy.

A random white dude pounding on her door and yelling about the alarm leaves her in a terrified sobbing mess? Lol, don't think so.

I think there is something more to this story, like the prosecutor was too quick to draw. There must have been some damn good proof of wrongdoing here, something very untoward, that has not been exposed yet.

The former Florida A&M University football player walked to the closest house he could see and started "banging on the door viciously", police Chief Rodney Monroe said, according to the Associated Press.

Oh boy. sigh.

Trayvon Martin didn't have his eyes open while walking. He was casing the neighborhood.

Ferrell didn't desperately knock on the door for help. He viciously banged on the door.

Nice racist glasses police chief. Are those standard issue?

I read some speculation that there must be a video that is extremely incriminating for the department to have acted so quickly.

If anything the woman telling the cop that Ferrell was banging on her door should have made something like this less likely, assuming the cop isn't a homicidal maniac.

Unlike the woman (and you apparently) cops have some basic understanding of the modes of crime. For obvious reasons, burglars never use the "tactic" of knocking on their victims front door and making a scene. It is a simple matter to all but rule out burglary. The cop(s) was/were well aware that this was not a burglary attempt.

Why didn't he just try to wrestle the guy to the ground? What makes cops immediately reach for their guns? I think I read he went for his tazer first but still.
09-17-2013 , 08:54 PM
Well the dude was unarmed. So, like, say the taser failed. How you get to 'shooting him ten times' I have no idea. Well, I do, but not with any sort of reasonable thinking or world view.

That's not really an accurate way to frame the situation:

Quote:
The woman was frantic about how to defend herself if he attempted to come inside.
Some rando shouty guy shows up at my door at 2:30, I'm gonna try and find my gun.

Yes? She was alone with her baby and a stranger was freaking out in her front yard and banging on her door. KKK or NAACP member, black or white guy, her reaction is going to be the same. That's like the definition of a terrifying situation.

The correct play is to know where your ___ is safely stored at all times, especially for those middle of the night visits from the boogey man.

This is something no one in Unchained cared to address, so I'll ask it here.

What does the guy running at cops who are shooting Tasers at him and otherwise have their guns drawn say about his state of mind? What does his state of mind say about the woman's reaction?
