It's pretty cool that they can do this as an experiment and pick the recipients randomly.

Good Mexican street tacos though not the terrible half assed American ones.

Didn't Texas try to argue something like this? That they weren't being discriminatory against blacks, the just wanted to disenfranchise Democrats and the fact that blacks happen to vote Democrat just kind of coincided with that.

Quote:
Longtime Republican consultant Carter Wrenn, a fixture in North Carolina politics, said the GOP’s voter fraud argument is nothing more than an excuse.

“Of course it’s political. Why else would you do it?” he said, explaining that Republicans, like any political party, want to protect their majority. While GOP lawmakers might have passed the law to suppress some voters, Wrenn said, that does not mean it was racist.

“Look, if African Americans voted overwhelmingly Republican, they would have kept early voting right where it was,” Wrenn said. “It wasn’t about discriminating against African Americans. They just ended up in the middle of it because they vote Democrat.”

This superPAC business is a goldmine. For instance,

Quote:
But the group has no clear connection to Trump and*records*show the group hasn’t donated any money to his campaign. One of its two founders appears to be a college student with no political experience, and in one instance, appeared*to be linked*to another liberal PAC which did robocalls for Hillary Clinton.

The group has taken in almost $800,000 dollars, according to FEC records, but those records reveal little about where money is being spent and to whom it is going.

The group’s largest expenditure — more than $450,000 — is for a “media consultant.”*No information is given as to who that*media consultant is. Other expenditures like “cashed checked” for $1,000 and $3,5000 are equally ambiguous. No address or purposes is given on any of the disbursements at all from the group in federal filings. Just last month the FEC sent the PAC*a letter*asking for more information, saying the group “failed to include the address, and purpose,” on spending disbursements. And, despite the massive amount*being spent radio ads and robocalls*— and there have been many of those –– the group has*failed to note any money*was spent on*independent expenditures.
If you're curious where the money is going check out the pics in the article of the guys who's names are listed as in charge

tldr, but this caught my eye

Quote:
Cammer told BuzzFeed News he had no connection to Progressive Priorities PAC and didn’t know what the group was. He also said the PAC was in full compliance with FEC rules.

“We’re all in compliance, there are some questions I’m sure,” Cammer said.

“My brother told me that you called. I don’t appreciate you calling me in personal hours, by the way, you’re not special, Andrew,” he added, about a 9 p.m. phone call seeking comment. “Do your job 9-5, bud.”

Long story short. Standard Conservative grift, dedicated spending to asking for more money and then spending money on 'consultants'. In this case it looks like it's ran by a bunch of college kids whose social media posts are college guys partying it up.

Yeah, Sarah Palin has been living off that for a while. Its basically like charities. Reputable ones will use some of what they collect for administration. Non reputable ones will use the vast majority on that.

Be sure to march in your local Labor Day weekend parade, comrades! Then attend a worker's council meeting of your choosing.

Remember though, brothers and sisters, that "Labor Day" is just a fabrication of the late-19th Century North American Oligarch-Capitalist-Imperialist pig-dogs. While they were beating and shooting us for demanding that we not be worked to death and paid a starving wage, they were also so scared of growing worker solidarity across the world and of losing a single dime from their grubby mitts that they threw North American labor a rancid meatless bone in the form of a day in September as long as it was not connected to the real celebration of the international worker, May Day. There is no "Labor Day" except on May Day in the rest of the world.

"With all their faults, trade unions have done more for humanity than any other organization of men that ever existed. They have done more for decency, for honesty, for education, for the betterment of the race, for the developing of character in men, than any other association of men." — Clarence Darrow

"Where trade unions are most firmly organized, there are the rights of the people most respected." —Samuel Gompers

"Our labor unions are not narrow, self-seeking groups. They have raised wages, shortened hours, and provided supplemental benefits. Through collective bargaining and grievance procedures, they have brought justice and democracy to the shop floor." —John F. Kennedy

Can anyone direct me to the Flat Earth thread? Perhaps it wouldn't be in Politics, but I get the feeling some of the regs here have had a say about it somewhere.

Microsoft gets support in gag order lawsuit from U.S. companies

This case seems like kind of a big deal. In April Microsoft filed suit against the Justice Department saying it has the right to inform its customers when the government seeks to access their information stored on its servers.

Quote:
Microsoft's backers included the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers, Delta Air Lines Inc, Eli Lilly and Co, BP America, the Washington Post, Fox News, the National Newspaper Association, Apple Inc, Alphabet Inc's Google, Amazon.com Inc, the Electronic Frontier Foundation and many others.
That's a lot of amici.

The law in question is 30 years old. Per Wiki:

Quote:
Under ECPA, it is relatively easy for a government agency to demand service providers hand over personal consumer data stored on the service provider's servers. Email that is stored on a third party's server for more than 180 days is considered by the law to be abandoned. All that is required to obtain the content of the emails by a law enforcement agency is a written statement certifying that the information is relevant to an investigation, without judicial review.

modern man's dismissive attitude toward unions reminds me of how there's been enough demonization that a lot of women won't refer to themselves as feminists, even if they support every tenet of the philosophy.

Disgusting how big business makes dirty words out of "union" and "feminism" because they don't want income equality or empowered workers. Even worse how many people are willing to sell out their fellow men and women just to be able to look snarkily upon those who support such things.
