See you at ATL.
I vote in every election, but never went to local democratic meeting or clubs, protests, whatever. Don't worry about it.
All that matters is we are on the right side of history now. My local Democratic club, which normally has 15-20 people show up if they are lucky, had well over 100 people show up last week. Most of those local clubs are run by older, retired people, and don't have the social media/quick organizing skills that we all have. I'm trying to help and influence those groups to be more efficient, share information quickly, and help organize these events.
What I really want to explore is the proper strategy and message we need to help democrats win these local and state level elections. Was it a matter of not enough canvassing/phone calls/registering voters? Was it not enough events? Was it the wrong message(should we be more progressive, push single payer) or be more center-left.
I'm also joining a group in Michigan that is trying to get a ballot initiative for 2018 to create a bipartisan redistricting committee to end Gerrmandering in the state. It's a really expensive thing to do, you gotta get 300k valid signatures (which is more like 500k actual signatures) within a 6 month period to get it on the ballot. But once it's on there, I think 2018 we'll have a damn good chance to pass it. (similar initiatives for recreational marijuana are pushing for this too)
I see now clearly, that the democrats local organizations have a lot that can be improved on. It's up to us to do it.
