Koch Bros plan to spend $400M in 2018.

They need to be targets. Their pipelines, their refineries...things that cost them money.
01-29-2017 , 05:24 AM
Only one week and Muslims are banned. After a year, I might not be let in.

All I know is that I'm keeping my eyes open for protests wherever I am.
01-29-2017 , 05:54 AM
koch's will save 400M, either there won't be elections or they're not gonna support trump.

I messaged both senators on the web, I know it's meaningless but offices aren't open. I probably come off as a lunatic if they don't get what the hell's going on tho .

I think my I'm voting against you no matter what if you vote yes on any of these ****ers from now on got the point across at least.

I live in China and return to work post-CNY on the 12th. Looking into flying back to Portland to join protests. Never been to one but feel its necessary now. My dad is an immigrant and one of my good friend's dad emigrated from Libya.

If when I arrive on the 2nd the protests have died I'm gonna be pissed.

Don't back down or wimp out. They work for you. State your case. Take as much time as needed. Be polite, but don't be brushed off. If they don't ask, make sure you tell them your name and where you live. Remind them you are a real voting constituent in their district.
Adding that if you feel anxiety on phones like me, you don't need a long-winded justification. They probably won't record it. The basics that you need to say are:

Name
City and Zip Code
I Support/Oppose XXX

I'm about to donate to the ACLU as well. The last 48 hours have clearly shown why organizations like the ACLU are important.
01-29-2017 , 10:53 AM
The ACLU has probably gotten more donations in the past three months than they did in both Obama terms combined.

I signed up too. I head that the ACLU has had 250K new members sign up since Trump took the oath of office.

During these dark times reading this thread and Twitter puts a smile on my face. Especially as it seems like these protests might eventually actually have a positive effect. I just hope more and more politicians step up as well.

The protests at JFK and other airports were organized by a group who collected emails and twitter accounts from the women march.

I've already shown two resistance groups how to link social media and set them up for a broader audience.

Most are using the Tea Party playbook of getting in elected officials faces at public meetings. Protesting on the weekends for larger crowds. Using socal media for instant flash mob protest.

It's really working because of the willingness of the people to take time out of their lives to protest.
01-29-2017 , 11:44 AM
Yeah, social media is so key in all this. That's pretty much my best hope in this all not ending full-on WW2 nazi Germany - in the age of information and social media it's so much easier for people to both learn what's actually going, and to get together / organize themselves. I almost wish I was American so I could actively participate in something.

Last night I know the guy from Celebrity apprentice was doing one but it was closed after $1 million was pledged.

Still say we need to recall republicans in the house and senate until we can impeach trump.

Yes I am.

As a lowly engineer, I don't have near the gravitas to herd you cats. However Dago is filled up to the brim with you poindexters, and I'm sure a leader will arise from within. This is all DIY. The science community needs to self-organize. Seriously, there's plenty of super-star scientists here, and if it's done right, those celebrity like folks helping organize y/o endorsing the march would be huge.

But... I'm not going to break the streak. Instead, I running with this 'Signal Boosting', and here's what I'll do. I'll put the Science March on the agenda of the newly rechartered (!!!1!) San Diego IWW GMB, and move that we both endorse, and participate. Goodness knows we need more union science shops.

I'll also help with this 'Signal Boosting' by giving two little pieces of advice: You want to leave your target a click away from a non-proprietary website. You don't want to make them go a'surfin. The backbone of online organizing remains the lowly listserv. The texting/tweeting word limitation is actually golden for requiring editorial brevity. But it really needs to be text than can be directly copy/pasta onto a listserv, and which contains a non-proprietary directly relevant URL.

What I did find when I went a'surfin is this: http://www.scientistsmarchonwashington.com/.

And I found the above Tweetergram (in a pix, not text) at https://twitter.com/sciencemarchdc?lang=ms. Sounds like to me that the DC organizers got so much support so fast that they're buried under just trying to deal with what they've already got. SNAFU can be a good thing .
