Ultimate demonstration of weakness to take such executive steps for a superpower that in principle ought to be able to monitor all foreigners and at the same time move to strengthen intelligence properly not like a police malicious state but as a smart common sense high technology system that can easily tell who are questionable and worthy of further search and who are everyday international citizens without ever even inconveniencing anyone.

I hope not. Being a cowboy is a bad thing. It's dangerous, and it endangers others.

Safety first. Decide on your level of commitment before you leave the house. Be sober. Use the buddy system. If you drive, park outside the perimeter. Know where the exits are. Don't carry shiz you don't need, propaganda, drugs, alcohol, or weapons. Secure your gear. Bring a hat and water to share. Don't be paranoid. Have fun. Leave when it's time to go.

Don't even think of doing anything illegal. Unless you are part of a pre-organized action. Every event like this you can walk away from is a victory... know when to walk away.

Ultimate demonstration of a run-on sentence.

When people employ black bloc tactics the media likes to paint it as chaotic outsiders bent on destruction. The truth is they are well organized, have specific goals, legal and medical support, etc. A true riot with mobs storming the gates is a bad thing.

The best part about these protest live streams is the chat box. Not reading it, of course, just being aware it's there and what's being posted. One one side there are thousands of people protesting in the cold, on the other is a couple dozen anonymously spamming a video feed chat that nobody reads.

Elementary intelligence regarding all foreigners is imperative for a big system. This is why your immigration system is a failure. Because it lacks proper intelligence. People shouldn't be afraid of their status. The system should be able to treat them fairly with merit and fix all status that deserves to be fixed even those that entered illegally and have some life here.

It is hypocritical to think that intelligence in a modern complex world is not necessary. The problem is not intelligence , the problem is the exploitation of intelligence by malicious powerful people for personal gain or political reasons.

The point made here is that proper intelligence could have stopped most major attacks in US past few years. And what Trump is doing now will stop nothing but even enhance it.

What Trump is doing is a full declaration of inability to do the job right, taking a blanket approach that messes up many innocent people and shows fear and promotes xenophobia as a way of doing business.

Your "no" to basic intelligence regarding foreign citizens is unrealistic. The problem is not the intelligence itself but what is done with it.

Every foreigner should be screened in some manner to protect your own country.

A true terrorist can find many creative ways to do the job and can enter from all kinds of different countries. But even that person will have patterns of behavior that are unreasonable for a random person unless they take immense coverup efforts.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with knowing who that is foreign is in your country and what they have been doing past few years in some general description that only enhances further searches never actually impacts that person in anything. It is common sense.

Your absolute rejection of any commons sense practice to protect the country is the very reason deplorables made the election of Trump possible with the help of some people in the middle that found your excessive sense of indignation regarding intelligence and other superficial "freedom" issues as unreasonable.

We live in a world that we all leave traces everywhere all the time the way we operate. There is nothing wrong with protection using collective intelligence. It is unavoidable. The problem is not that it can and should be done but how it is done to not threaten essential freedoms and exploit individuals by powerful groups.

In principle you can have a system that monitors for excessive risky behavior not for dissent or activism. Monitor the system itself in how it works!

A civilized society needs to be able to protect itself without becoming irrational, xenophobic and simplistic. 9/11 terrorists left a ton of clues.

All the "coastal elite" states should stop paying taxes. Maybe those bootstrappy racists would figure out who really pays the bills.

Some billboards on I-93 near Boston last week had positive support for immigrants/minorities from the state and nearby cities (Cambridge, Somerville).

Masque,

There are already incredibly thorough vetting processes done. This is what makes the #muslimban so ridiculous. IANAL but my sister is an immigration attorney. Any belief that people are just waltzing into the US left and right is pure propaganda.
