Tien,

That was a joke, you know, like it was how JB "started a fight. "

Because I'm not willing to hang out with a group of people all openly being bigots and racists without calling them out on it. It's apparently a character flaw of mine.

Attaboy J, next time grab an object to hit him with if he's bigger than you. Although 6'5" and strong like bull would probably require at least a baseball bat, or a gun.

I'm thinking of adopting a sufficient number of 5 year old children for self protection.

My guess is you are lying about what the other person said. They probably said something about Islamic terrorists and in your mind, programmed with bull**** talking points, heard something about "every Muslim".

Maybe it's not really lying, maybe you are just incapable of making certain distinctions because of all the hate and anger you have.

At any rate it's cool you got in a fight like this. You sound like a really swell guy to hang around with.

Because getting in a fight is better than just leaving. You've got some anger issues pal. Next time tell us about some of your road rage incidents.

Yeah calling out racism is such a rude thing to do at a BBQ. What an *******.

I don't know, let's ask Tim Kaine, he's pretty keen on spreading the word of God.

Calling out equals fighting. Okay sir. I think you confirmed my belief this guy heard, not what was said, but what he wanted to hear. Seems to be a condition that is becoming more prevelant recently.

No, what I heard was one guy saying how Trump was right, we need to keep any more out. Then the other guy saying we need to round up the ones that are here and kick them out too. And then some head nods and little winky winky "just telling it like it is" group dynamic bull****.
07-23-2016 , 11:44 AM
But anyway, I'm way more sad than mad.

frizbeeedog is wasted here, dude needs to be a profiler for the CSIs or something.

People who openly support Trump are often unreasonable people who suffer from cognitive dissonance whenever any fact is presented that goes against their view of him. Rather than accept the fact and adjust their worldview, they either rationalize it to retain their view or choose to be willfully ignorant of it. They're no different from Scientologists in that regard. If you insult their hero, you're fair game.

I cannot think of a mainstream, American Presidential candidate off of the top of my head in recent history with as violent and toxic a fanbase as Donald Trump. A Trump rally is a cluster**** of the worst aspects of humanity. I wouldn't want to be in the presence of these extremists, let alone engage them in a debate.

I would like to think that there are non-violent, peaceful who support Trump and wouldn't harm anybody whether physically or emotionally. My mother is the most subdued, non-threatening person I know. Yet, her blind devotion of him led her to insult me merely for expressing a differing view that did not insult Trump supporters, let alone her personally. I can't imagine what insulting Trump would do to somebody who is more aggressive.

In my limited experience, Trump supporters like Trump for being honest/telling it like it is. If they are generally uninformed, not extremely political and have any respect for you, you have an opportunity to de-Trump them just by pointing out his lies and inconsistencies.

If you know they will never ever ever vote Hillary, just don't mention her and talk about Gary Johnson.

Trump supporters conflate simplicity and honesty. People assume that when a politician is talking eloquently, they're doing it to pull the wool over their eyes and **** them over. Sadly, they're usually right.

So when somebody speaks simply and clearly (at a fourth-grade level according to linguists), they assume that he's telling the truth. After all if he was lying, he would use big words and fancy rhetoric to hide his true intentions.

This is something that can probably be explained to intelligent people who are currently "soft" (for lack of a better word) Trump supporters that have a history of occasionally voting Democrat. That's probably not a huge number though.

That said, my mother is a lifelong Republican and has no college education.

Sounds to me like he didn't really start the fight. In America, sometimes just expressing your opinion is enough to start a fight. And right now people are even more prone to this kind of behavior than normal I'd imagine.

Then walk away?

Dunno how fighting Trump voters helps. If anything, it just makes them even more determined and undermines your own position.

Its like those Chicago Trump rioters, it helped Trump more than anything.

Dunno how sitting in at lunch counters helps. If anything it makes racists even more determined.

It kind of boggles my mind that some of you are admonishing someone for standing up to racism. Yeah, let's just all always walk away and not let these people ever find out how abhorrent their views are to a large chunk of us.

Martin Luther King stood up to institutional racism and racists and partially succeeded because he didn't use violent ways to confront.

He converted racists with his speech and actions.

Damn, I remember some catchy tunes from They Might Be Giants but that really sucked.

The "Malcolm In The Middle" theme was pretty good

It's a pretty big tell Tian that you've jumped to the conclusion that jbrochu started the fight, when that was never said. Usualy (although not always) one person says "**** off" and the other person starts the fight.
07-23-2016 , 08:24 PM
Jbruchu is the Watts riots of fighting oppression, not Ghandi. It's a big tent.
