Quote:
Nikki Haley’s political capital and foreign policy credentials skyrocketed during her time as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, but one aspect of the former South Carolina governor’s didn’t get the same boost: her personal finances.

Federal ethics reports show Haley had debt from $525,000 to about $1.1 million in 2017 from two credit cards, a mortgage and a line of credit last year. She listed ranges of debt and income on the disclosure records.

She claimed to have $1,000 to $15,000 in the bank and earned roughly $10,000 last year. Her total does not include her salary as ambassador, which is about $180,000 a year.

It’s a feature. Much easier to control puppets who need your money.

Forgetting about the genocide business for a second, let's not overlook what terrible navigator Columbus was. We all know that he never had any idea of where he was or how he got there, but it's worth noting that the Caribbean is actually about twice as far from India as Spain. In fact, when he made landfall in the Bahamas, Columbus was literally further from Goa than any European had ever been - further than geographers at the time thought possible, and very nearly as far as is actually possible on Earth (he somehow managed to get a bit further away on subsequent voyages). Columbus's globe was less accurate than Ptolemy's from 1400 years prior. By any reasonable standard, he was the worst navigator of all time.
Thanks for the post. I just read the wiki article on Columbus and now I feel like he might have been one of the most deplorable people of all time. Why he's canonized in US culture makes no sense whatsoever.

It's all across the Americas, not just the US. British Columbia, Colombia, Colon Panama, plenty of towns named Colon, numerous cities with monuments and streets named for him.

Agreed he's awful and should not be revered as a historical figure at all--he should just be another ****ty villain--but it's an issue that goes beyond our borders.

I really had no idea these baseball ticket shenanigans were such a common thing in DC. How much value will these crooks lose if Bryce Harper blows out a knee?

I read a while back that it's a result of catholics in the 30's wanting a historical figure of their own, that's why you have **** like the knights of columbus and columbus day is a holiday and all that

LOL, she's making $180k a year but she's "poor."

If donks who win the WSOPME can get endorsement deals, we can name a few cities after Columbus. Just be thankful the continent isnt named after him.

Can confirm Columbus Day is due to Italian American interest groups, but naming cities after him goes way before that.

Trump thinks Chicago could solve crime issues with stop and frisk

Quote:
President Trump urged Monday that police in Chicago implement the policy of “stop and frisk” to curb the gun violence that is plaguing the nation’s third-largest city.

In a hard-edged and at times overtly political address to thousands of law enforcement officers here, Trump also crowed about the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh and said the sexual assault allegations against him had been orchestrated by “evil” people.
More on that latter quote:

Quote:
False charge. False accusations. Horrible statements,” Trump said to a cheering audience at the International Association of Chiefs of Police in Orlando. “It was a disgraceful situation brought about by people that are evil and he toughed it out and we toughed it out together.”
So Trump's measured approach on Dr. Ford lasted a few days before mocking her on stage, then a few more days before she's an evil disgraceful liar making false accusations

Well, this is sure to kill his support from the 2nd amendment crowd.
