My flatmate knows almost nothing about American politics. So he relies on me for some help with that stuff. He watches some news on TV but is kind of in awe about what's going on. He's trying to find some positives in Trump to try and rationalize how he became POTUS because in his mind, there's no way Americans would vote him in unless he has some kind of redeeming qualities that he isn't aware of. He wants to believe that Americans aren't stupid enough to vote for somebody this bad. All I can do is point out that yes, people were stupid enough to think he was the best candidate and still do think that way.

He doesn't speak English as his first language but when listening to Trump talk at the UN conference, he said "I can't understand what he means what he says things. I think if you are running a country, you should be able to speak their language properly." I couldn't help but laugh when somebody who started learning English in his mid 20s criticized a native English speaker for his speaking skills and was 100% correct in doing so.

And yet Trump fans will say he's the first candidate they can actually understand. I read something the other day that lack of cognitive ability is possibly the biggest indicator (after being white obv) of voting for Trump. The stupids have been mobilized. Historically speaking, that rarely ends well.

Not sure about cognitive ability but the poorly educated and those who perceived college as a gamble rather than a smart investment were more likely to be Trump supporters.

If things continue to regress, brain drain is simply a matter of time. Canadians will be bitching and complaining about Americans sneaking over the border and taking Canadian jobs.

Southaven is a suburb of Memphis and about 30 minutes from the casinos in Tunica. The town itself is pretty decent by MS standards too.

I had to look up where it was lol. It's directly south of Memphis TN. Wonder why Trump didn't just hold his rally there.

There are nearly 2x the number of Repubs in the state of California as there are people living in the entire state of Mississippi. fwiw

I feel pretty confident that Southaven was chosen primarily because it has an arena that seats few enough people (8400) that even Trump could fill it up.

"FULL EVENT!"

"Trump Rally HUGE Crowd!"

I suppose there is value in having money for a long time rather than the IRS having money for that time. Dude is next level.

I'm guessing some of it is going to companies that are installing these school shooter alarms (20 schools in Illinois have already installed them)

One school spent $90K to install this system

Meh, just realized that I made the rookie mistake of assuming the quotes around signified "time value of money" as a quotation as opposed to just random punctuation that he put there because "phone has buttons."

The issue is not the quotes, I could have paraphrased him as saying he doesn't know what the "time value of money" is, and it would be an okay use of quotes.

I may be misreading you, but just in case:

That's probably a requirement but Southaven is also like the prototypical DVaut white flight town where economic anxiety isn't really an issue as much as letting black people escape the cotton fields and interfere with their suburban middle class lifestyle. It's ideal deplorable country not because it's full of poor people in diners worried about their economic security but because it's full of the people who we know are the actual Trump demographic.

One of the biggest false assumptions liberals make is that rich people hold their nose and support him for the money.

That’s bull**** the media wishes were true. Rich people ****ing love him. And yes, they’re racist. But it’s really about power. They love that he can shamelessly demean people without consequence.
