You can make a facial expression, say a smile, without making a noise. Obama made a little funny and, I believe it was section D or E, had multiple people smiling like they thought it was funny/clever. McCain's didn't seem to get that response at all, if anything, I thought it was the exact opposite.

somebody named andy mccarthy or something a conservative but he says what i thing goodly since i am buzzed by now and all...

Great. Memo to McCain Campaign: Someone is either a terrorist sympathizer or he isn't; someone is either disqualified as a terrorist sympathizer or he's qualified for public office. You helped portray Obama as a clealy qualified presidential candidate who would fight terrorists.

If that's what the public thinks, good luck trying to win this thing.

With due respect, I think tonight was a disaster for our side. I'm dumbfounded that no one else seems to think so. Obama did everything he needed to do, McCain did nothing he needed to do. What am I missing?

Mccain is maybe the least charismatic presidential candidate in my lifetime. Ross Perot was abrasive but he had a certain charm about him, Mccain is just a grumpy old man.

This situation reminds me of Clinton v Dole. This following is completely unfounded; just a sense but...

Does anyone else think we might not see another President begin his first term in his late-60's or later in the next few decades, barring unusual youthfulness? I feel like 'experienced/wise' has become 'out of touch/stubborn'. If Reagan were running today vs. Obama, how would he do?

grunching...

I didn't watch the debate, but I did see a bit of the "after party" on CNN. WTF, they had TWELVE bozos yammering about the debate? Really? GMAFB.

One of them mentioned that McCain "wants to buy everyone a house." WTF is taht about? It sounds like the 1) stop paying your mortgage 2) uncle sam buys your non-performing mortgage, then gives you a new, lower payment 3) PROFIT!! plan I mentioned in some other thread. Where do I sign up?

Not quite.

Similar proposals tie payment to income. One I heard would require payment in the amount of 34% of monthly income. If and only if you can pay 34% does the renegotiation and adjustment of principal take hold.

Has to be upside-down, too, so you missed step 1.5) Bribe appraiser to undervalue your house.

New plan.

1. Sell current house while you still can.
2. Get a loan to buy a bigger house that will require 50% of your monthly wages to go to the mortgage.
3. Sell mortgage to the government.
4. Renegotiate to pay only 34% of your monthly wages.
5. Not so much "Profit!" as "Enjoy bigger house."

Good plan on paper, except that it depends on McCain becoming president.

According to Fox News, 87% of viewers thought McCain won the debate, 11% thought Obama did. Those are the kind of numbers Ngo Din Diem used to get.

When I first thought about the campaign, I thought Obama would win because when they debated people would see a young charismatic guy and an old, very uncharismatic guy. That's exactly what I think they saw tonight.

It will happen either way. "We helped Wall Street now we must help Main Street." Until the dollar collapses Congress will bailout every thing under the sun.

im really regretting my google image search for "joe sixpack".

Bad mistake

Easily the least interesting debate so far. I thought both candidates were pretty bad but would say Obama "won" in the sense that Mccain did nothing to improve his campaign like he needed to. Obama doesn't need to pick up new voters, he just needs to hang steady. I don't think this debate will be much of a difference-maker for many undecided voters. If anything, I think it will cause people to lose even more faith in the economy's recovery and the political system. I for one feel more apathetic about the election than before because I don't think either candidate is brilliant nor capable of helping us out of this slump.
