HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel just did an episode on the AR-15 and its widespread consumer use as a "target shooting and sporting rifle." Definitely worth checking out, Episode 230 from May 24, 2016.

Since we're on the subject, I've shot two guns in my life: a Sig 40 (pistol, think relatively high caliber) and an AR-15. The pistol was surprisingly tricky to handle and hit a target with; doubt a person without training could pick one up and wreak havoc with it on a whim.

The AR, on the other hand, was like a video game: almost no recoil, just point at what you want to hit, easy to pull the trigger. I get that they haven't frequently been used to commit large scale violent attacks in the past but having such a potentially deadly weapon so easily available and accessible is absolutely crazy. It was only a matter of time before someone went on a rampage with one and it's only going to become more frequent.

I'm curious as to what possible non-murderous reason one might have for owning such a weapon tbh

The solution here is to abandon political correctness and call "people" like steve out for what they are. For far too long the mainstream media and academics have tolerated and even condoned this garbage, and the burden on the rest of us is a steady supply of dead bodies so little stevey can keep the dream alive of one day killing a black kid.

I've given up hope on any meaningful reform ever occurring. If 26 dead six-year olds and their teachers didn't resonate, nothing will. Gun people will never change.
