Wikileaks: the EU plans to shoot down Libyan refugee boats (people trying to escape being killed by ISIS and other jihadists). The UK and Italy are the main backers. Interview about it with Julian Assange

Anyone going down the conspiracy rabbit hole to suggest that FIFA bribes to key US Senators are why the Loretta Lynch confirmation got held up? She's not wasting much time before doing WORK.

Btw what awesome timing for this FIFA news, one week after John Oliver's bit on fifa.

There's a big difference between:
A- shooting down boats loaded with migrants
B- capturing and destroying boats before traffickers load them with migrants

This seems to be about B, which might not be the most humane possible way to deal with the situation but is not as bad as A.

As of right now, the EU military regularly rescues litteral boatloads of refugees that are left stranded in the middle of the meditteranean sea by traffickers. I dont really see them starting to shoot at refugees all of a sudden.

Oh I linked to the wrong Oliver clip. He did one last week on the Fifa president.
Edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhAta_OWGZk

I wonder if he still "stands by his work"

I think your missing the forest from the trees on this one. It's not a matter of Bernie Madoff vs the others or conservative vs liberal. It's that limited liability, the conflict between employee and employer wants, the caveats of contracts, etc aren't the free market, free from the government, vs government regulation. It's different separate versions of government regulation enacted through state power.

I agree with the rational vs selfish, it was opaquely implied that sweatshop owners aren't uniquely selfish but just acting rationally given their incentives but it wasn't really spelled out.

In the new interview from prison, Hutchens said he was told by Jim Bob and Josh that “Josh had inappropriately touched [redacted] during the time she was asleep. He said he touched her through her clothing and he said it only happened one time.”

He said the fact that it was a one-time incident influenced his decision not to report it. “I did what I thought was right and obviously it wasn’t,” he says. “If I had to do it over again, I would have told him immediately I am going to call the hotline and contacted the trooper that worked those cases and have a full report made. I thought I could handle it myself.”

Even the child porn state trooper is beyond defending the dugger family. Can someone even throw someone under a bus via an interview given at prison?

I bet that guy is real popular with other inmates what with him being a former cop in for child porn and all.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio took a decidedly conservative turn on same-sex marriage in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network this week, warning that "there's a real and present danger" that gay marriage proponents will cast the teachings of mainstream Christianity as "hate speech."

Damn those gay people

Will? We crossed that bridge a long time ago. Just change what is mainstream, see interracial marriage.

I'm not gay.

But I do think a lot of what conservatives say on gay marriage borders on hate speech. Or is.

Nebraska state legislature abolished the death penalty today. Loads of people are PISSED.

I am happy.

It'll be back as a ballot initiative I'm sure, and I'm sure it will be reinstated, because we are a backwards redneck people with GOOD CHRISTIAN VALUES

There was a local case where a prison guard, known to be an ******* to inmates, was caught molesting children. My friend, not unfamiliar with being inside, said, "Holy ****, where are they gonna put him?"

Deepest protective custody units for those guys.

I think that was Oklahoma. Also pretty sure it happened more than once. I'm actually shocked that Nebraska outlawed it, although I'm admittedly not super familiar with their state level politics.

Reading the Heritage's take on pre 1960's poverty and it has a couple of glaring holes in it

Quote:
The recipe for America’s enormously successful pre-1960s antipoverty program was:

Establish free markets and protect property rights. Keep taxes and regulation at a minimum to encourage the poor to provide for themselves through their own work and entrepreneurship.
They seem to be forgetting a few long running events in American history that certainly did not protect certain peoples' property rights. But 'tis and it ever 'twer I imagine. Heritage isn't writing for those people.

Teddy Cruze getting in on the act

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/poli...icle-1.2238227

Quote:
Texas Sen. and Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz — who voted against aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy — called for federal relief Wednesday in the wake of devastating floods and storms that have ravaged his home state.

The Tea Party darling said he supports “the federal government fulfilling its statutory obligations, and stepping in to respond to this natural disaster,” in regards to the barrage of storms that have left at least 21 people dead and 11 others missing.

Cruz, 44, voted against a federal disaster relief bill after Sandy ravaged the East Coast in October 2012 calling the measure “symptomatic of a larger problem in Washington – an addiction to spending money we do not have.”
