Random thought o' the day: It's been pretty firmly established that all of the BS attacks from the right are projection, so what should we make of the fact that every time the derpiest of the conspiritards need to slander somebody it always involves a child sex ring?

I mean, I know the obvious answer is that all those 4chan dorks who jerk off to anime are closet pedos. That's not news. But are they actually running their own child sex rings?

I present your 2018 Texas GOP Platform

https://www.texasgop.org/wp-content/...for-voting.pdf

Tons of awful in here, but these two in particular:

Red Flag

We oppose monitoring programs including the Red Flag (that would deprive someone of their right to keep and bear arms without being convicted of a crime or found mentally incompetent by a medical psychiatric professional) or iWatch proposals and any program that causes gun owners to be investigated by law enforcement or appear before a judge when there is no reasonable cause of a crime committed. We oppose increased background checks, as they are highly prone to “false positives” and hinder law-abiding citizens’ ability to defend themselves, rather than reduce crime.
Now apply that logic to people applying for jobs!

Anyway I've now seen the end of two Avengers movies in hotel rooms. They're the exact freaking same - everyone flies around and fights off 7000 scary but apparently utterly useless bad guys at once, the shield guys are mostly useless but help a little, someone dies - which is literally the only drama - since they announced someone was going to die before the damn final battle.

Somehow in the middle of all the chaos they find time to save one kid or one family trapped in one building that's falling. Are we supposed to think no one else died in all the carnage?

It's just ****ing stupid. Not once did I feel the tiniest bit of dramatic tension to anything that was happening. Maybe I should watch these movies the other way - watch the first part then skip the boring final battle.
Bigly agree with this. Some super hero movies that were actually good were Deadpool and Logan, because they actually developed characters and relationships.

WTF am I reading; W was a far-right extremest from day one. 9/11 simply gave him the political capital to carry out his monstrous agenda.

Yeah for that take to be accurate, W would need to have actually believed that Iraq had ~anything to do with 9/11. We've known from day 1 he knew better.

I loved Deadpool because it's basically the anti-superhero movie.

Logan was a superhero retelling of Shane. Which is OK because Shane is a good movie.

the kid in Logan was way way way better than the kid in Shane.

Sir Patrick Steward agrees

Deadpool was awful. The only way its painfully forced "humor" could have been worse is if it had a laugh track.
06-19-2018 , 10:41 PM
I liked Ant-Man.
06-19-2018 , 10:41 PM
I feel the same about Fistful of Dollars being a remake of Kurosawa. But it was still a blow.

Disagree with this take, it feels like a comparison to all movies (which makes it more correct) but compared with the cheese in most super hero movies in existence it's one of the all time greats.

but at the same time I'm really in no hurry to see Deadpool 2 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
06-19-2018 , 10:42 PM
That take is a fire hazard.
06-19-2018 , 10:45 PM
I feel like there was a sci-fi movie that I recently found out was a remake of a Western or something - but I can't remember.

For one thing he tried to give amnesty to 12 million people.

Outland = High Noon

Outland was a remake of High Noon
06-19-2018 , 10:49 PM
pretty sure Wrath of Khan was just Moby Dick in space but not a western obv
06-19-2018 , 10:51 PM
Deadpool was bad violence porn with lame effots at humor. It's probably a movie where you're all in or all out. I watched like an hour and deleted from DVR.
06-19-2018 , 10:53 PM
Deadpool had me at the opening sequence with the slow-mo car rollover set to Juice Newton.
06-19-2018 , 10:59 PM
yup, me too. And then they actually managed to make me care about deadpool's relationship with his GF. Like why am I supposed to care about any of the characters in The Avengers? Who are all those folks? Who cares?

I thought it was The Magnificent Seven?

Edit: why not both?
06-19-2018 , 11:11 PM
Deadpool was ok, which is better than most of those movies.
06-19-2018 , 11:13 PM
Kurosawa stole **** from Shakespeare, stealing from him is fair game.
