The people of the United States decided to make their representatives Republican. This was mostly due to the passage of Obamacare, and to a lesser extent, massive spending over all.

It was the will of the American people to put the power of the purse in the hands of the republican party.

It is the resposibility of the President to realize this and come to a negotiated agreement, just as it is the house of representatives resposibility to negotiate with the President, and conference with the senate.

It is also a political move not to negotiate with the peoples' representatives. I could just as easily phrase this as: the president has veto power and Boehner has the responsibility to pass legislation that won't get vetoed by the President (or else have enough support to override the veto).

Do not understand why using a spending bill or debt ceiling raise CANNOT be used as a negotiating tool? If this is the case, then either party can hold the other party hostage literally 100% of the time. The Democrats should immediately demand an immigration bill and that all drugs be legalized and a highest marginal tax rate of 90%. Do you really not understand why the country cannot function if you are going to hold it hostage and make demands to simply allow the government to function? Really? Really?
