Good lord that article is sad.

I was talking with a couple guys I play hockey with recently. One was like "you have to go to Burning Man at least once just to experience it" and the other was about to go for the first time this year. I don't know the first guy very well (pretty sure he's in tech though) but the 2nd guy is a programmer at a startup, not really into counterculture or anything, don't really see the appeal of going to Burning Man for someone like that (or like me) at all. But I guess now it's just like "yeah man let's go to the desert and take drugs and party", all bros invited.

In ~six years of living in SF I've never heard people in my social circle talk much about Burning Man until the last 1-2 years.

Sorry guys, apparently the white house is the only building in dc completely dark. So no selfie.

According to chiefsplanet (FWIW) the beheaded journalist was something more like an activist for Islamic causes. Which would explain why was detained in Libya then again in Syria. I have seen his twitter which seems to back this up. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it here.

I went from 98-02. It was pretty amazing and very non-bro-ish. I don't know how much it's changed since then though. I know I saw some changes in the 5 years I went that I didn't really like (actual theft where there was none before, cops busting people in sting operations, more pervert guys just chasing naked women around).

I would go back given the right circumstances. I still don't think any of that nor these rich yahoos is enough to ruin the experience.

Everyone breaks. There was some reporter who volunteered to be waterboarded and tapped out in 20 seconds. Said he wouldn't do it again. Now imagine getting true painful torture. Personally I would hope I die fighting till my last breath but I could see that making things worse.

Come on man, I'm pretty sure a bunch of online poker shutins would valiantly stay defiant while someone smashed their nuts ala Braveheart.

Is it like a magic eye picture you have to stare at for so long? Cuz those never worked for me.

Didn't realize all the monuments and such are open 24/7. Was pretty cool being the only person at the FDR memorial and Jefferson Memorial. Took uberX from the airport and back. 9/10 would do again.
Im sitting on the DFW tarmac and my connection starts boarding in 5 minutes while im waiting fpr a ****ing gate to open.

What kind of ****ed up gate design is this? Taking a 4mph train to my gates. I guess everything is a bigger cluster**** in Texas.

There is exactly zero chance we solve anything. We do not need the oil. GTFO forever.
We do need the world to have the oil, right? A price shock hurts even if supply is not affected It sucks that we are the only country willing/able to keep the oil flowing.

Nothing good can come out of it.

Did you go to the Korean War Memorial? Really neat in the dark/dusk. Always wanted to see it in the fog.
