I'm not convinced that most people have any better a grasp on political issues. The canonical example is that when people were
asked what percentage of the US budget goes to foreign aid, the mean guess was 26%. 56% of people thought the US was spending too much on foreign aid; this dropped to 28% once they were clued in to the actual figure (less than 1%). Are these the people whose opinions I am supposed to take seriously?
Side note, you've really gotta respect the pimps who guessed some number 25 times the actual amount and then didn't change their opinion that it was too much when told the actual number. No backing down, baby.
