Any implications from WEC and UFC merging? Any implications from WEC and UFC merging?

Obviously WEC caters to the lighter fighters. Is this a merge to make better fight cards when fighters are injured? Or will we see even more UFC's now?

More (FREE)ufc's more fighters bigger fight cards and more championship fights. Also 2-3 new weight classes will be added to the already 7 weight classes. 125lb, 230lb and the 265+ pound weight classes could also be thrown into the mix.

How did you arrive at 7 weight classes? Also, where did you get that information about them adding a super heavyweight class? That seems highly unlikely.

There should be some decent fights at in the lighter divisions. Jose Aldo should get very popular. It is not very good for Benson Henderson.

Bantamweight,Featherweight, lightweight, welterweigh t,middleweight, lightheavyweight, heavyweight. Also, where did you get that information about them adding a super heavyweight class? That seems highly unlikely. Dana says more weight classes will be added.

The strongest arguments for super heavyweight and cruiserweight classes were shattered by Cain Velasquez.

The UFC event staff is stretched exceedingly thing, putting on huge events across large distances in very short periods of time. The merger will add bantamweight and featherweight classes to the UFC, as well as boost the event staff and allow the promotion to put on more shows.

If this results in more free televised events then more viewers will get that WTF feeling we all get after Cecil People's scores are revealed and perhaps a revision in the judging criteria will happen.

More, crappier cards under the UFC brand.

It was a no brainer to do -- the WEC brand obviously doesn't have much value on its own (e.g. their Versus ratings are pretty atrocious compared to the UFC's foray on to the channel), the UFC brand obviously has a lot of strength; the UFC obviously isn't too worried about dilution of their brand via poor fight cards, so now you have all the UFC + WEC events being contested under the UFC brand. Brings the benefit of the UFC name to the WEC fighters/events and doesn't really bring any negative to the UFC.

They'll cut a decent percentage of the WEC fighters and probably filter up the top 50%-75%, with a weighting towards filling the classes the UFC doesn't have today.

You'll see an increase in the total number of UFC-branded events but an overall decrease in events (i.e. there won't be as many events as were previously under the separate WEC + UFC brands IMO).

Just to confirm what others said, there's almost zero chance of a super heavyweight division anytime soon. There aren't enough fighters to make a deep and competitive heavyweight division, let alone trying to build out another heavier division.

They should just drop the bantamweight class altogether, if you weigh under 155 you reallly shouldn't be involved in MMA (exception for Aldo, who should move up to 155 tho).

What's the point? I mean you're a 135 lb pro fighter and you can hardly protect yourself in the real world? Go try cycling or horse jockeying.

Dodge, you realize most FW's weigh over 150lbs at fight time right? I'm not sure what to say if you don't think a 150-something pound athlete can knock people out. You could always try actually watching some fights once in a while.

Lol at this post. Dodge, if you don't even know what weight class people fight in you should probably just stfu on the subject.

Lol at your illiteracy, Aldo fights at 145 = not bantamweight. I specifically said that 125 and 135 lb fighters can't knock people out. If a 220lb Jon Doe off the street can slap you around then you shouldn't be considered a professional fighter. It's like watching freak show fights, it's entertaining but irrelevant.
