and its now 3am i got back from the main event an hour ago. made it to day two with 1.5x avg stack (100bbs) i had lots of fun/interesting hands (aka super FPS) which im gonna try and type up now but it's gonna be super long so i may fall asleep midpost.

This is my trip report from day 1a of the WSOP main event. This is gonna be stupidly long fyi.

I wake up at 1030AM after going to sleep at 5AM (because I was [black]out till 6AM the night before and my sleeping schedule was ****ed up.) So the entire day has an undertone of sleepiness. Also, I play pretty tight overall/don’t 3bet too often. I play very small-ball.

My table seemed to have one good player – some European pro named Jonas Helness. Overall, his VPIP was prolly around 50% with a PFR of 30% for the 10 hours of play – 9 handed. He was directly across from me so didn’t really affect me much. Basically, he ran over the table and I would take a few chips from him/others.


Hand 1 – The semifloat oop followed by semibluff c/r on turn
40 year old man limps in EMP, along with one other and the SB, and I check Q7ss in the BB. Flop A66 with two spades. Checks to first limper who bets 225 into 400 – folds to me and I call. Turn 2x or something stupid, I check raise his turn bet of 450 to 1200 and he folds.


Hand 2 – I attempt to make an image
I had open limped UTG+1 once and didn’t showdown my hand after it was limped 6 ways. I then limp 56hh UTG at 100/200 and we see the flop 6 ways. Flop J23 with two hearts. SB bets 1k into 1200 and I raise to 2500. Folds back to SB who thinks for a bit and I say “I’ll show it if you fold.” He folds fast and I show. My logic here was that in the future I can limp reraise from EP after showing that this is what I limp with. Further, I’m happy to take it down because we’re 100bb+ deep and if he calls I don’t really know what to do on a heart turn. One of my friends didn’t like it. Whatevs.

Hand 3 – Minbet FTW
So superlag Euro opens HJ a bit later at 150/300 to 750. I defend my BB with A5hh. Flop A89cch. I check/call 1100 bet. Turn 6h. Yahtzee! Until this point I had done nothing strange with bet-sizing at all. So I look at the Euro and give him a goofy smile while holding up 3 100 chips. I throw them in and he looks super confused. He grabs 3 black chips himself and looks like he’s about to call but grabs 2 1k chips as well and I call very fast. I decide to lead out any heart and c/c essentially every other river. River J and I check quickly. He checks and I show me ace and he mucks and looks owned.

Hand 4 – Sick sick sick sick sick old man ownage
Folds to me in the lowjack at 150/300 (don’t recall if there was ante at this point) and I open red offsuit AJ to 775; 65+ year old CO calls who is newish to the table and has been super nitty. Flop is 882 with two spades. I bet 1025 and he calls after a lil thought. Turn is 4s. I think for a while and am going to bet 2025 but realize that I have a nice stack of oranges and yellows (5k and 1k) whereas I have 1875 in smaller denomination chips so I just throw those out instead. Old man looks at his hole cards, thinks, looks at his hole cards, thinks, and eventually makes the call. River 4x. I look at him for a while and consider bluffing but pussy out. He looks at his hand again and throws out a 5k chip. I call within 5 seconds and he shows me the Ah. I ask him how high other one is and he shows AT without a spade. OOOOOOOWWWWNED.
P.S. – An hour later I open TT UTG+1 and the old man is the only caller. Flop AK5 and I check/fold. I joke and say that I know he’s not bluffing because after the AJ v AT hand he knows I don’t fold. He said he didn’t think I had anything and that he had the best hand. I’m pretty sure his logic wasn’t about value betting/bluffing – all he was thinking is he has nothing and I have the best hand so I’m gonna bet. LOL old live idiots.


Hand 5 – Owning nice online tourney pro (Terry) [Sorry I lied to you about my hand at the time]
This kid I played with two years ago at PCA comes to my table directly to my right. Over the hours, all of the older players were replaced by younger guys which was super lame. Last year, I pretty much always felt I was the best at the table while today I thought I was maybe third best. So UTG internet player raises, Euro calls, rando calls, Terry calls, and I call with black 22 OTB. Flop 944 with two hearts and one diamond. UTG bets 2500 into 4k, Terry calls, and I make it 6400. UTG thinks and folds while Terry thinks and calls. Boo. Turn Ad. He thinks forever and I stare at him the whole time. After a minute or so he checks. I think I’m going to give up but pretend to think anyway. I ask him if he has any 5k chips because I can’t see his stack and he shows ~30k total. I keep thinking and bet 9k. He folds after a while and when we’re hanging out during a break he asks me what would’ve happened if he hit his flush.

Hand 6 – Cold 4-betting and creating an image
As I’m so tired and had been drinking with Terry – by this point I was on my fourth Crown on the rocks but wasn’t really feeling buzzed (alcoholism ftw) – I wasn’t paying total attention. I then realized that this one guy, UTG+1, was always raising on this old nit’s BB. So he opens again for the 4th straight time in this circumstance and I decide to 3bet any two. Terry quickly looks at his hand and 3bets from 1100 to 3500 at 200/400. As he seems very good, I assume he realized what I just did and decided he was going to raise super wide. So I make it 8,400 and they both fold pretty quickly. I show my T8s and say “the alcohol must be working.” Huge level! Later Terry told me it was so obv he was stealing and that if he were in my spot he would’ve made the same move. Holler – I play well.

Hand 7 – Capitalizing on my drunken image
I’m feeling slightly buzzed and have been chatting a ton at the table. I open AQs UTG+2 to 1,100 with the Euro and the opener from last hand in the blinds. They both hate folding so of course they both call. Their stacks are 20k and 15k respectively, whereas I have 55k. Flop is QTx with two clubs and they both check to me. I quickly throw out a 5k chip so that I look FOS and stack sizes are perfect for shoving. They both think for 45 seconds to a minute and fold. Lame. I put both cards down and say pick one. The As is shown.

If you’ve made it this far, these are all the hands I played that were memorable. I never lost more than 5k chips in any hand nor did I ever win a pot over 20k. Playing like a bitch ftw! Now I hafta wait till Tuesday to play again. will have 100bb at 300/600 (59,875) while average will be 40k

good tr, however I have a few suggestions:

1) stop showing ur cards
2) dont say "ill show if u fold". standard live tell is that people who say they will show more often are bluffing/dont have it. i mean, say it if u think u can manipulate a live player, but w/e.
3) pretty sure the nice online pro named terry is AsianDude

1) yah, i know it's bad. live poker just confuses me and i do stupid ****. and two of the three times i showed were within the last 20 mins of the day fwiw.
2) i was talking to that one guy at the break and we were friendly so i thought he would think i was being honest. it was such a weird spot with stacks/6way limped pot that taking it down there was fine with me. i just shouldnt talk at all ever though but i get nervous/bored and just cant stop.
3) i asked him his name on stars and he said "asiandude7." i said "asiandude?" and laughed. we were the one and two seats and our dealer was asian. he didn't look too happy.

What is people's drink of choice while playing a session? Just got home from dinner which involved a few too many (bottles) of wine. My choices are crack another bottle of red, gin and tonic or bourbon and coke as I contemplate whether to grind double VPPs or go out for the night.

dont grind - go out for sure. i would go with bourbon and coke right now and when you're out go with the G and T.
