is it just me or does the CR PLO videos suck really, really bad? i mean the stinger/taylor series was decent but the rest just seems so unfocused and uninspired. they also seem to encourage an extremely tight playing style, within the first 10 mins sbrugby folds AQJTs to a BB reraise closing the action and then says that he will call KQTTs on the button when CO raises but that he prolly would fold if it was an UTG raise. really?

some of them are pretty good like any site, it's always a mixed bag

idk about anyone else but I hate KQTT, I always seem to find a excuse to get in there but it always costs me. One of those that looks nicer than it plays I guess

craziness. if you hold KQTT on a KQ639 board you even have the blockers so you can call when he shoves the river.

well it might be a case of very short term results oriented thinking but
yesterday I raise KQTT suited to Q, flop is JT2 with two spades( I have none), villain leads pot, I gay raise, we get it in and he has JJ lol
turn 2 obv.
fk I hate that hand!

even when u flop a wrap with it you got that damn pair in there, I much prefer KQT9, I'm not folding either though even if facing UTG raise

I'm actually taking my video production pretty seriously, as I genuinely enjoy teaching in general, so if anyone ever thinks what I've produced is awful or w/e, do let me know.

and fwiw, I don't think folding AJQT or KQTT given the info mentioned is necessarily bad, though I'd have to see the whole situation obv

I've still yet to see yours, maybe this month I'll get 7000 with some PLo50 in but the 3 minute preview looked pretty solid

i don't understand banana, PLO100 is your main game, and you're making videos for CR. explain please

i've played a bit of PLO200 recently, and don't see any noticeable differences between that and PLO100, which I've played a decent amount this year. player pool seems pretty similar, so I don't feel like i was really a move up, minus the obv dollar amounts being double.

I find myself beating the PLO100 games (and what I've played of PLO200 so far) pretty easily, and have been doing extremely well when I haven't been on obvious tilt.

i made a PLO50 video for Stox last month, which townsend told me he liked, so i'm making videos for CR now.

also, i think a big part of it is that there are lots of CR members interested in playing the micro/small stakes games, which I am obv. very familiar with, so I help cater to that demographic. If you check the CR PLO forums for example, most of the posts come from micro/small stakes players.

I think I'd have an easier time clubbing puppies to death than I would folding KQTT to one raise on the button. Just thinking about it makes me feel dirty. In order to cleanse the thread, here's a fun light 5-bet:

I'd have to spend some time trying to compile that, though I doubt it would be very pretty as I had two massive tilt sessions earlier this year when I moved up.

Small sample size, but this is March so far, with me running very hot the last two days.

I did have some tilt in two obvious places, but I think beyond that, I've played close to my A game most of the time.

I only recently got a stox subscription (ty FTP points) so I only just got to check out your video - about 3/4s of it before (I suspect) my computer started to lag unbearably. But I must say, what I did see was pretty damn good.

While I didn't necessarily agree with every play, you explained your reasoning quite well and there was one or two spots where your reasoning picked up at a point where mine had previously stopped and gave me something new to mull over.

I'm looking forward to your CR videos and I think they'll be valuable for anyone new to PLO or SSPLO players. One of the best things is that you identify the spots to take pots away that people will overlook and actually go after them. While I tend to do ok with the former, I'm still trying to break my nitty habits of passing on the latter. It's those kinds of spots that really vamp up your won w/o showdown and also make you a bit tougher to deal with.

Mentioning your rough equity is also helpful and reminds me that I've gotten really lazy about playing around with equity calculators. There are so many spots that you can hammer away at with great equity that people tend to miss or underestimate that it has the dual benefit of helping boost one's winrate while also making you look like a bigger nut than reality dictates.

This has (naturally) gotten way longer than I had initially planned on, so I'll end it here and just congratulate you on all your recent success; I think you've definitely earned it.

just out of curiosity, what do you guys get paid to make these videos?

Is it a prestige thing for you or does it actually make financial sense?

Thanks, really appreciate the comments.

Finding the right spots to take pots away is def. something I try to focus on, and I'm glad you commented on that. I know when I was struggling last fall, there were so many spots where I would tell myself "wow this is such a great spot to bet, everyone looks super weak", but I would either wuss out, or I would try it once and get caught, and feel like a moron. I think a lot of players experience this - they might see great opportunities, but are afraid of the result being bad and looking stupid, so they dont' do it.

For example, a good, aggressive button raises, a nitty SB calls, and you call from the BB with XYZ.

Flop comes 3 random hearts, you have none. A lot of the time, the hand goes like this: SB checks, you check, button bets 2/3 pot, SB folds - you stop and think to yourself, man, button rarely has a flush here, I bet he's full of **** so much, I should really check-raise bluff here - but you convince yourself that well he has it sometimes, and I'm gonna be throwing money away, so you fold. Well, sometimes you should def. check-raise here, and I'd imagine you'd win the pot quite a bit of the time - if not, and you get caught, it at least makes button realize he can't keep bluffing these boards in the future or you will put him in tough spots. I think beginning players often forget the future positives gained by short-term mistakes.

However, back to the hand: while check-raise bluffing is something I might do sometimes, there's another play I prefer - leading into the field when SB checks to me. If the button is good, he is not going to be making a move on me when I lead here because he has to worry that (1) I actually have a hand, and (2) the nit is still left to act behind him and could show up with a hand, so when he has nothing, he folds a lot (and might even fold a baby flush). Of course, SB is a nit, and folds a ton of the time too - but now we're often able to take the pot down relatively cheaply by putting the good button in a tough spot should he entertain the thought of making a move.

There are a lot of great situations similar to this, where we sandwich the good player between ourselves and a fish/predictable nit and make his life really, really hard. It's a concept I only really realized and started employing recently, but I think it's really really cool.

I'm hoping to record a session where I can get some more hands of that type.
