I just wanted to do something cool like make a 1-2k per month playing poker 2-3 times per week (silly me for thinking that). I have a good paying job at a very large automotive company in Detroit. So it's not like I need poker money to pay rent . I have a passion for poker and since I'm not an athlete anymore, I need something I can be competitive at and good at.

Why are you not an athlete anymore? Did you have an injury? There are plenty of leagues you can pay a small fee to join depending on the sport, you can still play poker on top of that as well.

Because I'm 40 and my glory days are well behind me. I still work out 4-5 days per week but it's not the same.

Do you play the PLO at Motor City Casino? I'm there 3-4 times a week.

I've never stepped foot in a casino. Played home games and over 100k hands online. Let me guess, you want me to come play there so I can donate? LOL. Actually, my neighbor across the street is a PLO player and has been to motor city. Says the 2/5 game is soft but plats more like a 5/10 game. What say you?

joey and cole, thank u both for a great episode! enjoyed it a lot =)
Thx Ness

I don't think he was being mean or rude with what he said, just wanted to find out where the hand was discussed. We actually didn't get that into the hand Bill so you didn't miss anything.

I am the same guy AC Should def listen to some of them imo

I've always wondered how some former athletes deal mentally with getting older and not being able to perform at a level that they used to. I would imagine it has to be really hard for some to adjust mentally to only being average/above average at some things and if some of them just stop playing all together because of that. That seems to be the case with you AC.

If your goal is to make 1-2k a month playing poker 2-3 times a week I would imagine your entire approach probably has to change from what it is now. /strat etc etc

I was just going to say hi if you played in the game. I know most of the regs, just wanted to know if you were one of them.

2/5 plo is pretty soft, 5/10 is okay depending on the field.

Former athletes deal with getting older in many different ways. I try to exercise 4-5 days per week and eat right. Sometimes the eating right thing doesn't work out so well but I try my best and usually do well 5-6 days/week. I'm also very competitive and HATE to lose. I also don't like being average at anything I do whether it's being a husband, dad, My job, or playing poker. Where poker is concerned, it's why I study stud, stud hi/lo, NLHE, PLO, PLO/8, etc. books and highlight/take notes on the pages. I think I'm a solid poker player. This is why I get pissed off when I lose pots when I'm playing well. People might say that's my biggest problem but maybe they don't mind losing monies...I mind. I don't really tilt that much and I owe that to athletics. You can't go on tilt when the other team scores a cheap azz goal and their 7-8,000 fans go nuts. Show me a gracious loser and I'll show you a bus boy! Like I said, I'm really competitive and I remember when I was growing up and my dad would tell me to smile after my team lost. I was like, "F that 5hite! We just lost!" And I would think about how I could do better so we wouldn't lose again.

So there's my perspective of how former athletes deal with getting and not wanting to be average.

Can someone give me an idea on how selling action in a cash game works?

Lets say I want to sell 50 percent of my action .

Are they responsible for 50 percent of my losses?

I pay them 50 percent of the winnings?

As a former (high school) athlete myself Joey, I can tell you that I mostly deal with it by going to the gym and beating up on all the out of shape guys my age, while also constantly trying to teach the high school kids there what I know about the game

That's sounds like fun LOL. But I don't belong to a gym anymore because where I work has a gym that's free to all employees. I go there during my lunch break. However, I sometimes go to Wal-Mart to make myself feel better hahahahaha.

Search for "PLO podcast" on YouTube and subscribe to the joeingram1 channel (it's ChicagoJoey's channel). Search for the video within Joey's channel with "Jungleman."
