Congrats again on the bracelet.
Thanks.

Yeah I have one and one more coming up. Will be 28 in 2 weeks~. Kids are a pain at times, but more often than not, they are fun. Having fun and partying is nice but it gets old very quickly. I don't think I would trade what I have now for what I had before. My 2 cents

So much wisdom! 20-year old kids are laughing now saying "No way!" but they'll understand in a couple of years.

I would love to think like this but (un)fortunately I can't. I don't see how having fun/partying/pulling girls as a poker player ever gets old

Well most young people I know think like that, some are older than the others. I know people at 40 who are just like most 18 years old guys. I think it's just different life philosophy... With the success I had this summer, I could just decide to "run it up" and go on the circuit and really enjoy the poker life, instead of that I'm probably just going to stay here, not invest 1 penny in my BR and go back to school part time in physics. Probably a bad beat for most of you but I'm ready for new challenges and poker doesn't fulfill that anymore. Money will only buy you so much in your life. True friendship/family/etc can't really be bought and that's the kind of things I find important in my life. Anyway not really a psychology/philosophy forum so I'll leave at that

Great post.

I guess I'm not a few years older then you. I don't really party all that much any more and don't travel the circuit, I just can't imagine having to be responsible for a baby (although I want kids in the future).

I always like hearing about players who invest their tourney winnings into their life BR (instead of poker). Just being around the tourney circuit the little I have, its crazy seeing all the people who are broke (that shouldn't be) trying to like a lifestyle that they simple can't afford.

It's a banal observation to make but the fact is you need a really really big bankroll to be a self-sufficient live MTT player.

Once you factor in cost of living and the fact that fields are probably getting tougher and tougher, almost nobody can really afford to play big buyin MTT's on their own dime for a living.

Even apparently successful cash players like ZJ and good2cu were selling off their action in the bigger events. (Although I believe one of those two knowingly or unknowingly sells his action at a premium over his EV, which makes it a good deal independent of variance considerations.)

I know of several solid winning players who have gotten their makeup in the $500k range, and that doesn't include their living expenses (which they pay from cash game winnings or other savings).

I haven't attempted any math or anything but I would venture to say you're not really safe being a full time big buyin MTT player unless you have like a million in the bank.

along those same lines MM the number of really good mtter's who forgo most of their online profits for a live staking deal. They give up making some low six figures, for super high variance shots at making 7 figs and instead end up deep in makeup.

good posts here. One thing you can never underestimate is how many ballers are skint broke. Playing the big circut for a living is just not really a viable option. I work in the poker industry and I have often said that when/if I leave the industry id love to do a tell all well about the 'true state' of the world of poker.

I just buy used ProV1x's from some website and they come pretty much brand new but half the price. Haven't bought new ones in ages, except when I was in vegas and had to rent clubs of course.

i've been playing a lot golf lately (once or twice a week). i used to play all the time in hs but i sucked back then. wish i would have rented clubs in vegas and played. next year i'll prob just bring them with me.

i got my 2nd eagle last week. almost holed it from the fairway for a double eagle. would have been sooooooooooo sick.

the other crap thing about live tournaments is the lifestyle. it could be excusable if you're in vegas and have sick means of travel/hotel, BUT the average result is hotel living which is pretty unhealthy. there are people who know ways to get around this, i am not one of them

i grinded live'aments hardcore for the first half of this year to breakeven'ish avail. at the current pace unless someone gives me a sicko deal I will probably only play the main event (unless my bankroll surges into the millions by some stroke of luck, doubt thats happening tho)

I'm going to start playing more live tourneys, I'm going to play the APPT and LAPTs this year. What's unhealthy about the life style if you're doing it once a month or so? I'm pretty excited to take advantage of each tourney and travel around for a week after it's over
