1) Tilt control: Try to get some or you will be crushed by PLO. ( There are some good books out there about the issue)
2) Be nity with your bankroll ( Something btwn 75-100 buyins will do the trick)
3) Accept the PLO variance. It is HUGE. Downswings of 20 buy ins are the rule not the exception
4) Buy Omaha Manager. The best program out there. Use it to find your leaks, constantly review your hands after sessions ( You have no idea how important that is)
5) Read some book to have an exactly idea of straight draws and value of hands in omaha, the best are: Jeff Hwang, Bob Ciafone, Reuben. (These are all for fr but there are new ones about shorthanded by Jeff Hwang and Slobotton, visit amazon.com)
6)Now you start playing. Try to start tight preflop and when you get more skilled you can loose it up ( most plo players do exactly the oposite of that).
7) Try to keep. VPIP: 25-35 PFR: 15-25 3 bet: 4-6
8) PLAY SUPER TIGHT FROM THE BLINDS. You have to fold the big majority of your hands from blinds in PLO. Believe me don`t defend light your blinds on PLO.
9) PLO IS POSITION, POSITION, POSITION. Position is way more important in PLO than in NLHE, you have to avoid at maximum any spot where you are OOP in PLO.
10) Now you have to learn the basic equity in the most common situations in PLO. It is hard!!! You have to make a lot of simulations before you consider yourself to be capable of telling the equities in PLO. Two poker sites are gonna do the trick: twodimes.com, propokertools.com (you can determine ranges in this one).
11) While playing go to those sites all the time and see what your equity was in every spot that you were aui. You are gonna discover that it is hard to find a spot where you are more than 75% favorite.
12) Start posting in twoplustwo like a crazy maniac.. Play-have a doubt-post-discuss-play-have.... There is no way you are gonna be really good without going through this process over and over again.
13) You have to learn how to play AAxx. Some tips:
To vary your play flat call bad AAxx from OOP and IP. So you add some deception to them.
If you can put 35% of your stack pre with any AAxx leaving you with 1PSB do it and shove the rest in most flops.
Don`t put yourself in a situation where you are deep and it becomes clear that you have AAxx, specially if you have bad AAxx
14) Donk bet: You are gonna have a lot of profitable situations in omaha where you have to donkbet, unlike NLHE where you almost always check to the raiser omaha doen`t work this way, try to learn the situations where it is correct to donkbet. There are a lot of them
15) Give credit to your oponnents. At NLHE you can get away with a lot of hero calls, however in PLO you have to choose your situations to make a herocall carefully and against the right opponents. (Be careful with that half pot size bet lead from villain OTR, they seem to have almost everytime when they half pot....lol)
16) In general you don`t want to call a 3 bet with ( however, you could find a lot of situations where it would change): Axxx, pairs hands, disconnected hands.
17) You can call 3 bet a lot in omaha because the equity pre is so close, you can get away ( depending on your skills postflop) with 60-80% probably
18) It is harder to multitable PLO, in the beginning you should be playing at maximum 4 tables, you can add more later.
19) BET FOLD TURN: This makes no sense for NLHE player because it is so counterintuitive for them, but you have to learn the right spots to bet fold turn If you want to become a sucessful PLO player. It is one of the most important skills in this game. Work on it.
20) " When all is said and done, if I spent most of my time sitting at a poker table, I would feel that I was a loser in the game of life" Barry Greenstein`s book. Try to master 20 If you can
(I am tired again, I`ll write more later).
