It's amazing how simple it is to restrict calories by following this extremely simple plan:

1. Avoid processed foods as best as you possibly can (exceptions for minor convenience or supplements like protein shakes)
2. Eat dead animals (enough to satisfy daily protein needs)
3. Eat non-starchy dead plants

yea that's pretty much the key though you need some qualifications on 2. lean towards fish and chicken.

for 3, spinach, lettuce etc. are all great as is broccoli. you should add root veggies (carrots, beets, etc.), and legumes (though they are relatively highly caloric) like kidney beans, chickpeas etc.

I don't think you need a qualification on 2. People aren't meeting their protein needs by eating kobe beef exclusively.

You don't need any qualifications there if you are just trying to lose weight. Good luck eating enough steak to not be at a deficit (when its combined with fruit and vegetables).

If you want to be a paragon of health, sure, eat more lean meats. But in this thread, with this audience don't even worry about it.

Calorie in vs out is obviously all that matters.. and its super easy to do with the dead animals live plants routine.

What's the deal with potatoes? Good/Bad? I like to make mashed potatoes w/ some garlic. I'll use a med. size patato and have it with a protein.

It's my favorite vegatable and it's really the only one I can eat day in and out. But I've heard conflicting reports about eating potatoes. I'm 6'4" 285 lbs. FWIW.

it's not a vegetable in the sense that it's good for you like green roughage. It's a starch so it has a ton of carbs and most of the things that go with it are not good for you/high calorie like butter, salt, sour cream.

I use them as a good source of complex carbs...I usually steam them. Quick to make and easy.

Not included in the free, but the full Prime membership is half price with a student account (no sharing with family, but anyone you shared with while you had full priced Prime still shares with you).

Got a "3rd meal" in today, since I ate before my softball game and then again after, so that put me in a better calorie range.

also I ate edamame for the first time and holy **** is that good

Don't be too hard on yourself. 1000 extra cals is barely more than a fourth of a pound difference at the end of the week IIRC.

As long as you don't make a habit of constantly going over, you will still make progress if you are at or under your goal most of the time.
