What if he said a "Cox (swear filter) and Fanny Diploma"? I'd assume he was making some sort of joke, or it was slang. William and Mary Diploma sounds nearly as dumb as that, so it's not that surprising that someone would ask about it. At the very least, they'd want to check that a school such a dumb name actually existed.

I actually thought the name of the college was the joke at first. Like others said it's just a stupid name for a college and unless you went there or looked into going there, there's a good chance people have never heard of it.

For the William & Mary haters, you realize it's the second oldest college in the US? An original Ivy League? It's not some small random college.

William and Mary is a really well known school. I think if you can name 10 colleges that don't have a city or state as part of their name, William and Mary is going to be among them.

edit: I guess maybe not if you only know colleges because of sports.

i guess this explains why several ppl itt are having a hard time dealing with why non-americans or americans unfamiliar with the college system dont think of it as a college name; because they have probably heard the name in context multiple times themselves and thus it has become 'normal' to them.

still, you would have to be pretty damn dumb not to be able to use just a speck of objective thought and realise that william & mary is not a normal name for a college imo.

Yes, the use of "diploma" was soooooooooooooo confusing and provided zero idea of what William and Mary could possibly be. If only there had been a resource available that, should one be incapable of using context clues, could have provided a hint as to what William and Mary diploma could have meant.

Diploma is kind of a give away, but from the name I guess it sounds like it could be a cooking school. Or maybe if you got your diploma framed in wicker or something.

Since you asked it IN the thread itself, with google at your immediate disposal, and continued to ask it...I think it goes near the top 3. The fact that you continue to insist it was too tough to figure out even with the freaking word "diploma" in there perhaps even takes you to #1 on this one which is pretty impressive considering some of the tales of dumbness in this thread.

But most of the chicks who get caught in their web of dumbness at least have the good sense to be a little bit embarrassed about it or understand that they should have known that or been able to figure it out.

Regarding some of the other names I mentioned in there:
I think it would be much easier to confuse "Brown." Because someone could refer to their "Brown Diploma" and get asked, "why isn't your diploma white?" or something like that. A "Liberty Diploma" could conceivably sound like some sort of special diploma or something and not necessarily come from the University that is called Liberty.

But did you really think a "William and Mary Diploma" was just some sort of slang or special name for a diploma and wasn't the name of a college? And did it really not occur to you to just look it up if you hadn't heard of it before?
