Guess what Reggie Jackson's BA was?

Spoiler:
.262

Only Harmon Kellebrew is in primarily as a hitter w/ a lower BA.

Quote:
Ray Schalk who batted .253 for his career. Next lowest are Harmon Killebrew at .256, Rabbit Maranville .258, Bill Mazeroski .260, then Luis Aparicio, Ozzie Smith, Reggie Jackson, Joe Tinker and Gary Carter all batted .262.
The Maz line would work if he wasn't in due to defense (and he was previously considered the largest travesty for inclusion prior to Baines, ****in' Roger Maris isn't in [.260] ... but I digress).
03-22-2020 , 01:32 PM
Lol batting average. Reggie doubles the WAR of both Maris and Mazeroski.

You were the one bringing up batting averages!

I quit. Buy a dog.

Quick look at b-ref makes me of the opinion that the floor for deserving HOFer is Lou Brock. Relatively low WAR, but I still feel that even in an era of greater understanding of value, amassing 3000 hits should still get you in

Ive always believed 3,000 hits is a direct ticket. Add Brock's 900 something steals and its a no brainer.

George Michael was a .260 slap hitter with a lot of singles. A little bit of speed so he tried to steal a lot but was only successful 60% of the time. Flashy defense but booted a lot of routine plays.

Reggie was the straw that stirs the drink.

I petition we change the thread title to:

The Straw That Stirs The Drink can't be the floor.

George Michael was a little worse than Wade Boggs?

I can see it, tbh. Not sure that's quite worthy of the HOF/OP tho. Seems like that's pretty close to Dale Murphy/Darryl Strawberry or Dennis Hopper/Lady Gaga land, right below the line.

Dude was in MacGyver with RDA.

Baseball HOF is so stupid and archaic.

meanwhile the Basketball HOF lets nearly everybody in.

And that's all I have to say right now.
03-23-2020 , 09:16 AM
who is the bubble player for the NBA HOF? For a while, i thought it might be Vince Carter, but I now think he's a shoo-in.

Will Kobe's first vote be unanimous? I expect so.
03-23-2020 , 09:22 AM
robert horry maybe?

Pro football HoF also terrible in assorted ways, but of course nothing touches the epic trash can fire grandeur of the Rock and Roll HoF.

Mitch Richmond (in)
Shawn Kemp (out)

Shawn Marion is the current questionable case. Joe Johnson (def in) and Amare Stoudemire are future ones. Manu should be a no-brainer imo.

Kobe will be unanimous. Vince was a bit questionable prior (similar candidacy to TMac) but his longevity now makes him like the Cal Ripken of the NBA (don't talk to me about AC Green) somewhat great in his prime and then around forever, maybe a guard/forward Robert Parrish.
03-23-2020 , 01:27 PM
I think Vince's comp is Dominique Wilkins fwiw.

Bill Walton didn't have a long NBA career and was constantly hurt, but it's not the NBA HOF and he was basically Tebow in college.

Little outside of the box, but for that reason you'd have to think hard about including Marbury (multiple time AS and then international contributions, bringing the game to China). Robert Horry was a fringe starter, he's closer to Derek Fisher than a HOF'r imo. Hall of Very Good and he was largely right place right time, like Steve Kerr.
03-23-2020 , 01:30 PM
There is no NBA hall of fame.

Correct

If there are any WWII history enthusiasts ITT, my article on pioneer aviators from Purdue was just published in Air Power History magazine. You can find it on pages 27-24 here.
