Certainly there is more humidity in Kansas City than in Vegas, but you're virtually never getting 100 degree days iirc.
I've lived in both places and preferred Vegas summers much more than KC summers. And of course Vegas winters crush KC winters.

Not being drenched in sweat every time you go outside in the heat is an enormous plus.

But as much as I never expected to say this, if I had to pick between the two cities I'd pick KC. Vegas is pretty much just a giant ****hole if you're not a tourist.

Ya college town would be sweet. Anybody have recommendations?

As for why no bible thumpers, I'm flexible on it but in my experience they tend to be pretty opinionated about their dumb views and I'd just prefer to live among people who are more tolerant and open minded, especially once I have kids.

SC is about 10x more redneck(they still fly the confederate flash over the courthouse in columbia ffs), plus none of the the towns are worth a **** ime. And they make you buy liquor from airplane bottles in bars last I checked.
You have not checked for some time

Anyone remember this thread? The gas station is on Florida Ave.

It's also worth noting that although I picked one neighborhood, you can pretty much find something anywhere in Tampa other than Hyde Park and in much of the surrounding area.

wow... good call. Surprised there's nothing in Temple Terrace.

I moved out of Hyde Park a few months ago... funnily enough its the only place I've been physically assaulted in my life. weird, huh? I was walking home eating some Ribits and three guys decided to run up and sucker punch me.

Lot's of great value in Green Bay, just picked this one at random but there is a ton of even cheaper housing in the city if you look around I'm sure you can find some good bargains: http://greenbay.craigslist.org/reb/3523104401.html

Have to deal with winters obv, also there is a holy shrine in the city known as Lambeau Field, many people come from all around the world to worship.

I obviously didn't understand what you meant by decent. I've lived in two college towns (one in the south, and one in the Midwest), and anything I would consider decent is at least 125k.

were you going to whatever towns you speak of's respective college/university while you lived there or was otherwise preoccupied? if so (meaning you weren't obsessively monitoring the town's real estate market) i'd assume if you were noticing 125 as the cut-off for "decent" housing that someone with patience who could watch the market would find something decent very near to his 100k price point.

Sure. If you have as much time as you want, you might find a good deal at 110 or something. If you're not careful, you're going to end up in a less than desirable neighborhood though.

Not really (and especially not compared to the rest of the Front Range.

Zillow has over 100 single family houses under $100k in Colorado Springs and immediate environs (a lot more if you add in condos). They seem to be spread all over, not concentrated in one super-undesirable part of town.

I know it would be on my shortlist if I were OP.

Unless you're very handy and want to buy a "fixer-upper" to sell for a profit, don't buy for under 150K anywhere. Just rent. You'll be able to live somewhere nicer and won't be tied down. And mowing sux.

Arcata, CA, although the cheap stuff is in the crummy mobile home section of town.

Yeah, 9k results and I removed condos from that. Also made it 75-100. That's about 50 miles across. Spread out metro area.

Greenville, NC might be somewhere you want to look at. College town with ECU and about 80 miles to either the beaches or Raleigh.
