I tried the pecking technique as well. Barely broke 50WPM using only my two index fingers. Hard to hit caps with two fingers. I kept wanting to hit the delete key with my ring finger too.

Not sure exactly what my typing speed has been over the years. I do know that I took my first typing class in 7th grade, and I think it said I was about 70wpm then. Later, after I graduated high school I went to apply at a temp agency. One of the questions on the application was concerning my typing speed. I hadn't had it tested since 7th grade, and I knew I'd gotten faster, so I just put 90wpm. I turned my application in, and she looked at the 90wpm, smirked and said, "90wpm, eh?", and made me take a typing test. I did 114wpm on it, and that shut her ugly ass up.

I think the poster that said earlier that you plateau is about right. I've been at about 120-140ish pretty much since I graduated college.

The things that really helped me type faster were just being in chat rooms and chatting online. In fact, I do most of my socializing with friends by chatting with them online, and I never use shorthand netspeak, so naturally, you just get faster at typing, assuming you have proper form.

I don't want to sound like a braggart, but I don't know of anyone personally that can beat me consistently in typing. My friend's fiance is pretty fast, but she averages about 100-110, so while she does beat me every so often, I almost always win.

I don't look at the keyboard when I type, give me some credit! My typing speed has massive variance though. I'm usually anywhere between 50-120 WPM for short spurts depending on what's being typed.

Imagine a poorly designed robot from the 1940s programmed to have down syndrome violently trying to fit a triangle shape into a circle hole in a 3x8" area. That's basically what my hands look like when I type.

pretty fun, and an awesome concept. there were a couple quotes that made me really curious where they came from, and i googled one.

for the record, low was 63 high was 80 over about 10 matches.

Highest I could get was 93, it is sad how much time I spend doing this ****ing thing.

I need a video of the 150, I question if it is humanly possible to be honest.

I was averaging around 55wpm and won almost every time. must've been playing 9 year olds.

So, how do you type. I find I have just developed a natural way of typing, which is probably not the most efficient way, but something I'm comfortable with.

I sincerely doubt that I'll ever reach the speed you type. Fron typing this message, it's clear my index fingers do the most of the work.

Have you had formal typist training? From your post it would appear not.

How best to tidy up typing speed?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'formal typist training' - I just took a regular school typing class... if you just use the chart below, and practice at hitting the keys with the right fingers, your typing speed should go up significantly! Good luck!

I'm pretty close to that chart. Some of my defaults that are different: for C I use light green LH, for Y I use light green LH, for B I use pink RH and for Q I use purple LH.

Yea, I use my LH ring finger for Q and RH right finger for P.

As long as one uses all of their fingers, I can't possibly see how anyone can type less than like, 70wpm.

I got 108WPM and do it a little different. I use my left ring finger for 'Q', left middle finger for 'R' and my right ring finger for 'P'. I wonder if I'd improve if I change those three.

I have terrible technique but I can still manage 70-90 wpm depending on how much ' : - , . crap is in the phrase. I think I only use 6-7 fingers and favor my left hand specifically with the left shift key.

Next one ended with 94 and came in 3rd.

I don't type the proper way though. Never really grasped it. I am happy with my scores though. Although I will aim for 100.

I was just noticing the other day that it seems like the right shift key is about the only thing that I really use my right pinky for. I think even for Enter I'll frequently drift over with the ring finger.

I wanna race using a Charlie Sheen rant. I bet I'd be a bit faster.
