the last 3 bands i listened to are:

this bike is a pipebomb - one of the original folk-punk bands. basically they play melodic punk that has a ton of country and folk influence.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJwEbaXmkuY

mondragon - a band a French buddy of mine recommended to me recently. he described them as "crust-pop." i wasnt sure if i liked it the first time i listened to it, but now i think it's pretty cool.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZLNX...eature=related

ekkaia - a spanish melodic-crust band. i really really like this genre of punk, and this band is one of the very best representations of it, i think.

Not sure about Goldfinger, I though they were a ska type band.
Agreed. There's always going to be the this band is not as punk as this band battle, but both bands in this scenario would still fall under the punk genre. When I look at Lagwagon I see a band that bridged the gap between harder more traditional punk rock and pop punk. They certainly deserve to be under the punk umbrella.

I know this thread is about new punk, but I didn't think this was notable enough to warrant a new thread. Poly Styrene of X-Ray Spex just died of cancer. If you aren't familiar with the band, check out their best known single Oh Bondage, Up Yours!. Their album is a punk classic.

Yeah, RIP Poly. X-Ray Spex influenced an insane amount of music I listen to now; their stuff is definitely worth checking out.

People who say things like "X band isn't punk" don't get it.

I've been listening to The Vandals a lot lately, mostly the Fear of a Punk Planet and Look What I Almost Stepped In albums. A little Nerf Herder, No Use for a Name and Guttermouth to boot.
