Aside from that, I thought Myers was mediocre, but it's an important scene. Knowing that the British spy is a movie critic and knows a lot about German films makes the following scene in the bar more enjoyable when he is being grilled by the Nazi officer.
I took away the complete opposite regarding respect for Churchill. Who is he to speak to Churchill unless he is spoken to.

Regarding pitts accent I am probably a little tough on him its just a huge personal pet peeve of mine that I have a hard time getting over in movies and yes he probably was trying to do an over the top southern army accent which just made it that much more unbearable to me. If I wasnt raised in the south I would probably think nothing of it.

excellent film, loved it, but wtf was with the farmer just hacking at his chopping block right at the beginning of the first scene?

I think Myers part was something only QT would do. I think any actor could do that job yet QT got someone you would never expect to do something like that and went with it.

I thought this movie was excellent and if it's like PF in any way it will be better the 2nd or 3rd time and appreciated even more as the years go on.

I think he knew that the Nazis were coming and just wanted to 'look busy'. Or it's some obscure Tarantino movie reference we missed.

Actors aren't known for having useful skills. It was probably just easier and safer to have him hacking at the block rather than actually splitting wood.

Just got done watching it, and wasn't really all that impressed. It was alright I guess, but nowhere near the top 35 of all time like Imdb has it ranked imo.

I saw it again last night and there is no way Landa knew that it was the girl that had escaped him four years earlier. He never even saw her face only the outline of her body running in very ragged clothes.

I loved it, I'm going to see it again most likely. I also recently watched Resevoir Dogs for the first time, that was awesome as well.

Absolutely loved it. I went with really high expectations and wasn't dissapointed in the least. I'm sure I'll be seeing this a few more times.

FWIW:

1. Pulp Fiction
2. Reservoir Dogs
3. Inglorious Basterds
4. Kill Bill
5. Death Proof
6. Jackie Brown

3 might replace 2, but I'd need to see it on DVD with all the extras. It would probably already overtake it, but I saw RD's in a little indie theater with no knowledge of anything at all and was floored.

I was actually fairly disturbed by some people in our theater laughing at pretty inappropriate parts. I mean, there were plenty of obvious moments of humor... like Landa's pipe, a lot of Brad Pitt's dialogue, etc.... but I don't care what the context is, it's not funny to *actually* watch someone be beaten to death with a baseball bat, even if the lead up to that moment is laced with humor.

Then I read the comment in this thread about QT's deliberate parallels between hitler laughing at the shooting/killing scenes in "Nation's Pride" and modern audiences laughing at the subsequent massacre of nazis in the theater (not to mention the bat scene and other inappropriate parts).

I already knew Tarantino was an absolute master, but damn.

Saw this last night and thought it was incredible, a great mix of violence and dialogue (exactly what we have come to expect from QT).
One thing, I HATE films with subtiltes ( i cant express how much i hate them) except this one!

Yeah, it would have taken away a ton of atmosphere from this movie if all the dialogue was in English. I really don't get why some people hate subtitles, either.

Isn't it obvious - they're just visually irritating and unnatural. Instead of looking at facial expressions during a dialogue like you do in an actual conversation, you're looking at text at the bottom of the screen.

I don't mind it to create effect with a few lines in a film, but would not watch an entire movie that way.

When watching subtitles you forget they are even there or that you are reading them. You don't miss out on anything on screen and you are watching their mouths. You read without looking at the words directly after a small period of adjustment. I feel sorry for people who refuse to watch subtitled movies you miss out on so much glorious cinema. Or have to watch terrible dubbing.

This film was downright awesome. Will get round to reading the thread in a bit but I would think the general consensus will be that this was a masterful piece of cinema. Tremendous entertainment.

One thing I mentioned elsewhere but didn't get a satisfactory answer:

Plothole possibly? They chose Stiglitz or whatever his name was to be one of the three German speaking allies to meet up with the German actress, von Hammerschmit or whatever. Wasn't he an extremely notorious guy who had been in newspapers for killing loads of gestapo leaderts? Why wasn't he recognized? Why was he chosen for the mission?

Also the other basterd was an austrian Jew who fled before the going got tough for the Jews. Yet the captain guy said Private Hamburg and Sergeant Stuttgart or something to them when the whole accent thing came up. How can he be from Austria and have a Stuttgart or Hamburg accent?

What am I missing?

For the first part I'd say they weren't expecting to run into a bar full of Nazi's, or spend enough time at the bar for it to be an issue. This is maybe contradictory to what I just said, but they also could have deemed it necessary for everyone who went to be able to speak German.

So this is from what rudimentary German knowledge I have, since I took it in high school and my German teacher is from Munich. I believe the SS officer said something like private Munich and Seargeant Frankfurt.

Anyways, Munich is in the south of Germany, in Bavaria and there are similarities between the Bavarian accent and the Austrian accent with the Austrian accent being even a bit harder.

for example, most Germans pronounce Ich (Isch) but Bavarians and Austrians pronounce it more like (Ick).

Native German speakers, please correct me if I'm wrong.

great, great movie. I didn't think it was as good as pulp fiction, but it probably is better than Kill Bill (which I rate slightly ahead of Resovoir Dogs).

Some of the scenes were absolutely amazing. The first scene on the farm, the strudel scene and standoff were all awesome.

The Bowie music jarred for me a bit, and I wasn't expecting Hitler and the other 3 to get killed (I thought the two different plots would somehow **** eachother up). But in retrospect I think this deviation (from history) was not only refreshing, but quite brilliant.

I also loved the different languages and accents in play. Tarantino's dialogue continues to impress. I did have a bit of a problem with the neegro/king kong joke. I thought it was funny, but pretty unnecessary given the dynamic of that scene.

Anyhow, I'll be seeing this again ASAP!

Wacky 'fail' details like this appear throughout the Man With No Name trilogy and other Leone films iirc.
