God, this is what makes the milk bet the best. There are others like it - the whole six saltines thing being a notable one - but for some reason there's nothing like milk to make marks say, "Oh, that's so easy, I could do that."

I've seen no less than 4 people accomplish the gallon challenge for milk, two of them multiple times. But it was a standard fraternity pledge activity that the masochists in the fraternity continued to do with the pledges even after they became brothers (there were a number of guys who tried and failed twice a year for 4 years).

Sure. I love the people that claim to have consumed a gallon of water during a certain time period when no money was at stake. Lol, ok.

Milk has a lot of lactose, which your body can't break down without the use of an enzyme called lactase, and you only have so much lactase in your stomach. A gallon is enough to overwhelm the amount of lactase in your body. Once the lactase is overwhelmed, the lactose is broken down by symbiotic bacteria in the small intestine.

However, the byproducts of the bacteria eventually cause discomfort and then eventually vomiting.

At least, that's my understanding of it, may not be 100% right, but it's close.

If you continue to read the post, I also "claim" to have thrown it up. Or is that not possible, either?

Im sure your bros are happy about this being spread on the intertubes....albeit almost every frat does this challenge.

So explain the whole thing to me. You drank too much. And then you filled up a one gallon container with water and started chugging? Or you had a gallon of water that just happened to be nearby? And you also somehow remember what time you started drinking it and what time the last drop was gone? Meanwhile, you were completely wasted (when, well, accuracy is at it's worst). Really?

so if you took something to increase the amount of lactase in your body temporarily... theoretically you could do this?

All right, since you've clearly never had alcohol before in your life, or you drink until you pass out and don't know when to quit, I'll go step by step with you.

I was drinking quite a bit, and was quite drunk. Not fall down drunk. Not black out drunk. I could remember the evening clearly, but I was drunk. I hope that's clear.

So, deciding I was done drinking for the night, I drank as much water as I could, which was at least 2 2litre bottles worth, or slightly over 1 gallon in case you don't get the conversion. I can pretty well guarantee I drank it in the span of a rough hour, maybe a little more, maybe a little less.

Now, adding all these factors together (I wasn't black out drunk, I was trying to avoid the hangover, etc), I still threw up shortly before I went to sleep.

Also, just a side observation. You seem like someone who forms an opinion about something, and doesn't see any logic, or anything for that matter, that should somehow contradict where you stand. I bet you're fun to hang out with.

I think so, and there are things you can take that will do this, but that's little more than an educated guess.

First of all, your time frame has changed from "under and hour" to a "rough hour." Secondly, WTF at drinking 2 2litre bottles of water to avoid a hangover. Seriously, WTF????? No one would ever do that. Your story makes zero sense. Lol, at you not being blackout drunk and just trying to avoid a hangover. "Oh, I know the secret, I'll just chug these 2 2litres of water, problem solved."

Sorry, want me to edit it to say "roughly under an hour"? I know this is confusing for you.

Lol to you thinking drinking tons of water doesn't help with a hangover.

But, I stand by my statement of you in my previous post.

Awesome, next time I'm buzzed and fear a hangover I'll just hook a garden hose up to my mouth while I fall asleep.

That's tempting. What kind of odds could I get? 3/1? 2.5/1 maybe? I'll think about it, and maybe set up a new thread.

yeah, so.. not as easy as i thought. drank ~5/8 of a gallon in 2 chugs. but was too full to finish it in under 5 minutes. can definitely do it in under an hour though.

It's very believable. I once drank a gallon of water within 2 sets of tennis. It was really hot outside and I was sweating bullets.

it's very tough to do in one minute, given the salt drying your mouth out factor and making it hard to get them down. but I've done it. was really close tho.
