This is what i feel too, the hospital bill is inflated on the chance they get someone who straight pays it off esp. since normally it's an insurance company footing the bill and not the person.

Last time the gf tried to negotiate they were fast determined on the price but she didn't push. This is where i'm confused about the best way to go negotiate it down, just call and consistently say 'it's not possible for that amount to be paid' until it gets lower?

Ok save yourself time. Whomever you get on the phone, ask them the following question, in a polite tone:

"Are you someone who has the ability and the authority to negotiate payment of my bill in writing at a rate lower than was stated on the bill?" If no "Can you direct me to someone who can help me?" This is the biggest trick of all. Get someone on the phone who can actually help you.

When negotiating, you need to be firm and insistent that the amount they are billing you for is beyond your ability to pay. If you waver, they're not going to cut you a break, because they're pretty sure they can get the full amount.

Also, don't call and be like "So what can you do for me?" Have a number in mind you're able/willing to pay. Then chop an extra 10-15% off that number, at least.

I think that's a completely legitimate OOT thread, FWIW, not lounging at all. We can give everything to other forums.

meh those threads always devolve into list threads. if people actually gave reasons instead of just listing 5 movies, they'd be better
