Part of the reason you catch a lot of flak in OOT is because you take very strident positions on topics where your arguments are nearly completely devoid of any sort of reasonable logic or common sense.

Instead of instantly getting defensive when challenged on your bull****, pause, take a deep breath, and try to actually think through in a logical fashion why people are saying you’re wrong.

Take the restaurant situation for example. Your hypothetical average wait staff earn $24k/year working 14hrs/week.

Think through how long an average restaurant is open, what the average cover is, what the average tip is, how many people work at various times throughout the day, how busy it is at those times, etc. Now think through the math behind that and work out how reasonable or not your avg $33/hr worked estimate is.

Do you think you get paid a fair amount for the work you produce at your average output level? Accounting for your salary, do you work that multiple harder than a server in a busy restaurant were they getting paid minimum wage? Does it make you more or less irritated that servers are making more than they deserve than people making very high salaries, or do the wealthy people deserve it?

I can definitely see you making 20% tips as wait staff. Getting tips is far more about personality than it is about actual waiting skills. Possibly in top-tier restaurants needing both is necessary but generally speaking personality and likability wins hands down.

I have a friend who is an anesthesiologist and he makes over $500K a year. He spends like 15 minutes interviewing and putting the patient under and then he chills while surgeon does his business. Bull****, right?
