I actually think working in the medical "business" has warped any sense of reality I once had. I see drug companies charging ridiculous prices but nobody says anything.
Why?
The individual doesn't pay for it. We all pay though collectively through insurance. So, over the last five years, I have seen everything skyrocket. The companies pick whatever price they feel like charging.
You go to school thinking that education and knowledge matters most. Or that a product sells for what the "market" thinks it is worth.
It makes one think "who cares about anything, really?"
