Damn, that seems insanely selective. Even if I were a multi-millionaire Brad Pitt look alike I'm sure I could find 5 matches out of 100 worth my while, especially in LA area.

But I'd take the over that you're an outlier being an exotic and good-looking guy in a sea of green card thirsty women surrounded by guys who more or less fit the same look and are shorter than you are.

My guess is that you could quite possibly be matchup poof against the algo.

Haven't been on tinder in years though
Yah, I have no idea how the algorithm works or if there even is one so it's possible that right swiping 100% could be offset if you're an outlier yourself.

Also FWIW, CDMX seemingly has very few green card hunters. There was maybe 1 girl out of dozens that I even suspected might be looking for one. Colombia OTOH is full of them, and they'll often make it obvious in the first few messages. Part of the reason why I didn't enjoy my Tinder experience as much there.

right. I'm in London and if I did that on Bumble I would never get a date. To what you said, I would add the inactivity factor as an important consideration. I would hazard a guess that around 70% or even more of the profiles on the app are inactive, and even of the ones who match, a good chunk will be inactive when it matters, IE when it comes to actually noticing the match and/or initiating a conversation within the time limit.

Online dating is the lap of the gods. like you say even if you're the hottest guy on Earth, out of a random sample of 10 women many just won't be around to message even if you do match (especially on Bumble where there's a time limit). And if they ARE around to message, they'll also be messaging a ton of other guys.

I swipe right about 40-50% and that's probably a lot lower than average for a guy. I counteract that by putting in insane volume, but even with a daily average of 30 or so girls in the match queue there are some periods when i can go days without a promising message.

Maybe Gaddy is using Hinge, which seems to be a hell of a lot better at presenting active and engaged profiles, or some other app I'm not aware of.

Now that was a great post.

It being the LA area, there’s a lot of attractiveness in those 100 profiles that just looks fake — prostitutes, sugar babies, wannabe influencers — plus ones who are covered in tattoos and not my style or just look like we would have nothing in common.

I do use Hinge. I get more likes on Hinge than the other three apps combined. It’s too bad 85% are uggos.

I canceled my paid subscription to Tinder and immediately noticed big changes. All girls who swiped right on me would come up in my feed right away before (or you can just choose to see them all right away), now they might take days to come up. It makes a big difference I think in that a woman who is looking for a date will probably match with several potential guys right away, and you want to be chatting with her before her dance card fills up.

Yeah, that's why I quit online dating. My BFF can go on there and swipe for 20 minutes and she'll have like 100 matches. Then she won't message any of them.

Woah, that's insane. 30 is more matches than I've received all time.

It’s pretty common in the art world. It’s called a commission.

Why do you have a question mark after the word person? Surely you aren't insinuating it was a dog that painted this picture. Were you thinking like a Border Collie / Australian Shepherd maybe or more like a Chihuahua?

It was painted by an algorithm I wrote after pretending to watch 5 movies to get my friends to shut up

The rewarding part of commissioning the work was being involved in its design and that it wouldn't exist without me. I wanted a painting of the Cinerama Dome and I had bought a couple paintings from this artist before. It was my idea that he put elements from movies that have played prominently at the Dome in the painting. I gave him a list of movies to premiere there, asking that he include the DeLoreon time machine from Back to the Future, my favorite movie as a kid, and that he include something representing the first movie ever to play at the Dome when it opened in 1963 -- It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. From my list, the artist chose to depict E.T., Close Encounters of a Third Kind and Apocalypse Now. I thought he chose the perfect representation of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World -- the palm trees shaped like a W where the treasure is buried. When he sent me a picture, I loved it but asked him to add in one more thing -- the black monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey. It was my vision that the monolith is what's causing all the craziness happening around the Dome.

I liked that experience so much that I commissioned another painting from a different artist. You might like this one better. It's Mad Men-themed, but incorporates the Eames Lounge Chair and Nelson sunburst clock that I own. I also had him add in a bottle of Blanton's, and have Roger drinking an old fashioned while Joan is drinking a sidecar. His vision for the painting was that Roger and Joan are stealing a moment in his office. Roger is reckless, evidenced by the crooked lampshade, phone receiver out the window and shoe on the other side of the room. The story is that Don is about to open the door and see Joan's shoe. Does he continue in or back away?

Cooper's Japanese octopus painting would have been perfect to include in that. If only they were in his office.

I like your deep thought out posts where you judge everyone around you. Really exposes all the reasons you’re alone and why you pine for a past that’s never coming back.

It’s a sunny day here, and despite being tired, I’m going to be friendly with and talk to most everyone I see today without judgment. So thanks for the extra motivation pal. Have a fantastic day all!

Black VP ended it with me yesterday so she could try out a relationship with another guy. Big bummer. Things have been picking up with LaBartender anyways. The rest of the B team is intact as well.

Still, quite unhappy about this

Yeah, I’ve had a few fall off that I think about from time to time, and it’s always a bummer. But I know that I wasn’t going to give them what they wanted, and I’m not going to lie or mislead them about that. At the same time, I’m happier without them than I would be with them in a relationship I don’t want. So I try to remind myself of that and I feel better.
