I've been reading up on this, and it looks like there are a LOT of reasons not to use the evasi0n jailbreak. The Chinese connection is particularly problematic, and there's no way I am going to jeopardize the security of a device that contains all my personal information by using an untested, buggy, and possibly even fraud-related system alteration. I strongly advise others to stay away until we know a lot more.

They said they removed it, but even if they have it's probably still not going to make people who are aware a bit more than average feel comfortable. Although from the looks of it, even an alternative jailbreak would seem to have Chinese connections, or possible connections. The offer was apparently made to multiple developers.

I stayed on 6.0x to keep my jailbreak, but updated when this jailbreak came out. Actually not regretting it, ios 7 looks like it doesn't need too much worth jailbreaking. The "quick settings" is decent enough. Decent looking lock screen. Will probably just wait it out.

ok guys, i have a problem.

I'm helping my mom set up her google auth for her gmail, and i'm running into a problem on her 5s.

Everything seems smooth when i enable 2FA. I've verified the phone, installed the google auth app. Everything works fine in safari. The phone is registered to not ask for codes through safari.

however, everytime i try to sign in through the gmail app on the phone it requires the codes. obviously everything works, but it's just annoying and obviously i'm doing something wrong and I am not going to tell my mother to just use safari everytime she wants to push her email.

to be clear, safari works and doesnt require the codes, as i've registered the phone to stop commanding codes on signin. but everytime i use the native gmail app on her iphone it does.

HALP.

I will use Evasion but pissed they released before 7.1. Once key apps are working I plan to go ahead.

I think it's time to upgrade from my iphone4. Is it worth shelling out the big bucks for the 5s? Or just go for the cheaper 4s or 5.

At least go 5, not 4s

4s is a pointless upgrade from the 4 if you've kept it for this long.

You may as well go for the 5s if you're not planning on upgrading every 2nd gen.

Yea. I was thinking about being a cheapass and holding onto the 4 until the 6 comes out, then picking up the 5S for a reduced price

All,

Any experiences jailbreaking ios7?

Anything specific? Jailbreak went through day 1, but many people reverted back because of the drama and potential Chinese stuff. The jailbreak itself seems to be working fine. Cydia is slowly catching up.

Taig has been removed and we want to address some additional concerns put forth by the community: http://evasi0n.com/l2.html

There is this though

About remaining issues with evasi0n, read the FAQ! And please wait for the next update! Understand that it's Christmas for us also
So I would just wait. No real reason to rush.

These are the only warning from their site

Quote:
-Warning! Over The Air updates of iOS 7 are known to create an issue and make the jailbreak fail. Some devices are then stuck on the Apple Boot Logo. Until we fix that, please restore your device to 7.0.4. with iTunes first.

- Warning! Many Cydia tweaks are not yet compatible with iOS 7. Please always backup your phone before installing new tweaks from Cydia as your iPhone could be stuck in the boot process. The situation will improve as developers will update their software.

- Warning! We have reports that the iPad 2 (wifi) is not yet compatible with the jailbreak and will certainly get stuck in a reboot loop. Avoid trying evasi0n on that model till we make further investigations.

Real noob question, but why should I jailbreak my phone? What are the benefits?

Biggest one now is probably tethering.

Do some plans not allow tethering still?

It's included with AT&T these days for no cost I thought; or maybe that's just on the share plan?

Definitely go 5S. It's future proof for much longer than the 4S or 5.

Does anyone else have a problem with touch id? That thing doesn't recognize my thumb print for more than a day. Always gotta set it up again.

99% of the time i must use passcode to get into phone.

Not all carriers/plans allow it.

I'd be tempted to jailbreak just for the f.lux app.

I have AT&T but no tethering because I have grandfathered unlimited data that I'm not willing to give up.

Unlocked 4s on iOS 7 today no problem.

Unfortunately it looks like Verizon won't activate a device originally sold with an AT&T plan (they have different IMEI prefixes) so it was all for naught. Still going to try...maybe I'll get a cool guy behind the counter who'll can do it anyway.

Why not? They throttle after 3gb anyway, correct?

I thought ATT and Verizon used different radios?

update since no one in this thread knows about iphones.

So I eventually figured out that the GMAIL app on your iphone is simply not designed for 2FA. Neither is the native MAIL app on your iphone.

Obviously through safari it works, but for you to circumvent always having to input 2FA you must use the MAIL app on your iphone and generate a specific application bypass code in your gmail settings that allows you to continuously check your email without having to hassle with the 2FA issues.

So I tested the 2FA and it works. You just have to set up the bypass code in your gmail settings. The only downside is that she's stuck with the MAIL app interface, but I doubt much that she cares.

They do.

And what is this regarding the chinese government?

Frankly if the chinese government wants to read my **** I really don't care if I can get tethering lol. Really, every second they spend going over my **** would be one less spent on a dissident.

when I was at the apple store, we couldnt get the fingerprint reader to work consistently. The 5s is a dud IMO on that reason alone, and the only reason my mom refused to get the 5c was because "lololol plastic" which I just laughed off in my head. Dat marketing is very powerful.

When my mom got home, she immediately disabled the fingerprint reader, even when I told her that was like one of the only 2 reasons why she should choose the 5s over the 5c.

As a hardened android user, there's nothing that I could discern at the store that would lead me to pick the 5s over the 5c. I certainly would not get the 4s though. My sister erroneously upgraded to IOS 7 on her 4s and she complained to me about what a disaster of a decision that was. Her phone couldnt handle the upgrade until she searched on the internet on how to optimize it so that it wasnt so slow.
