My iPhone 4s has suddenly started draining battery very quickly - about ~10% of every hour - even when it's just sitting there doing nothing. This is annoying as I use it as my alarm and now it dies overnight and doesn't wake me up. I haven't started doing anything differently recently (no software updates or anything). I am still running iOS 6, if that matters. Any ideas?

Don't know about the battery drain, but can't you plug it in overnight?

Can, but prefer not to just because of how my room is set up (outlets really far from bed).

I would update to the latest software as someone else mentioned.

Also, look through your settings and see how many apps are autorefreshing in the background. Turning these off made a pretty big difference. I only left the GPS apps on. Emails being constantly fetched may be an issue too, consider changing to push to fetch (hope I got the term right) so it only refreshes when you actually check your email.

Don't do it just yet. iOS7 has some battery issues as well and some people I know with a 4S can't access wifi anymore on iOS7.

Try a simple reboot too, sometimes that fixes weird issues

Ha, crap- already installed it. Seems to be helping but I'll have to test it tonight. Thanks to everyone who chimed in.

I have a 5 with iOS 7 and I routinely get ~6-7 hours of usage time and over a day of standby time. My brightness is set to about 40% and I have background app refreshing turned off. My mail is actually set to push. I think if you can learn to live with a less bright screen you'll see a marked improvement in battery life.

Skimmed the last 10 pages or so and didn't see any mention so I'm going to ask....

Is the 5S worth the extra money over the 5C. Walmart has the 5C for $47 and you get a $75 gift card with it so I can basically get paid to get the 5C. I also like the color of the 5C better. Although the new camera on the 5S looks pretty sick.

Thoughts?

Or possibly the Galaxy S4? I had a droid once but hated and switched back to iPhone but I'm hearing lots of good things about the new Galaxies.

Yes. The 5C is essentially a 4S with a colorful shell. The 5S is faster and is the latest version of hardware.

This is incorrect.

The 5c is an iPhone 5 with a colourful shell.

just wipe and reinstall if you can be bothered.

i had this on my 4 and i can't remember what the exact solution was, and i imagine it varies. try disabling all the email accounts on there + turning off all location services. i _think_ it was something to do with it was stuck in some sort of loop of trying to check my GPS location.

Newb question:

So I've read in the thread that there is no IOS 7 jailbreak. Does that mean this utility isn't legit? http://jailbreak-absinthe.com/

Phone is 4s w/ 7.0.3. Need to jailbreak to switch from ATT to Verizon.

Yes it does; that website is a scam.

Also, I'm not 100% sure of this one (because I keept track of jailbreak stuff, not unlocking), but I believe that even if you could jailbreak and unlock your 4S, it could not be used on Verizon because GSM 4S's (like those used on ATT's network) cannot be switched to CDMA (like Verizon's), even though in theory it has the right radio hardware.

How do you delete photos off the iPhone?

I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 7.0.3.

About a month ago, I connected the iphone to my Mac (running 10.8.5) and transferred all the photos to iPhoto. My daughter complained that she needed to post some of the photos on Instagram. So I used iTunes to sync those photos back to the phone.

But now that she's finished with the photos, there does not appear to be any way to get those photos off of the iPhone. iPhoto does not show those photos to be on the phone. I set up iTunes to not sync any photos from iPhoto. But the photos still show up. They aren't individually deletable and I can't delete the album.

I don't know if it's an iOS 7.0.3 problem, but that's irrelevant--I can't update to 7.0.4 because I don't have space on the phone. What can I do?

Could you be syncing your photos with a folder on your mac (doesn't have to be iTunes)? This would give you an album on your phone that you can't delete containing pictures you can't delete. Not sure what else would do that.

Surprising. But looks real.

I've jailbroken more times than I can count (including for other people), but I think I'm going to hold off on this one for a bit. Cydia isn't officially updated to work with this and of course lots of tweaks are incompatible, so there may be some teething pains.

I have iOS7 running on my 4s, was running fine at first then kept on disconnecting from wifi.

I would turn it off an on to reconnected but now it won't even connect and the whole thing freezes when going into setting. Restored it from back up but still nothing any suggestions?

It's weird that Saurik (Cydia) is sorta crying foul that he was not informed. Yet the official statement says he cut a deal with a second group to bring the jailbreak out before them after they didn't agree to his deal. This is why we can't have nice things.
