Had a Five Guys bacon cheeseburger over the weekend. Toppings were A+, really fresh, generously heaped on. Burger itself was the blandest piece of meat I've ever had. Averages out to a B+ I suppose. Not bad for a $5 lunch, but there's more flavor to be had elsewhere.

The use of the words "bland meat" and "$5" makes me think that you didn't actually eat at 5 guys

Never had their breakfast. I'd give it a try, but the only Del Taco by me went out of business awhile back

I had the smaller burger, it was 4.63 or something before tax. Think whatever you want, nothing beats cooking meat over a real flame rather than frying it.

i've only been once so i've been refraining from commenting, but this was my thought as well, everything was great but the meat was just so bland it was weird

My issue with 5 guys.

Eaten there a couple of times, and I can tell it is extra fresh, and I like that, but compared to an In N Out, there isn't nearly as much of that "it's so greasy and tasty I'm gonna have a heart attack if I eat here more than once a month" feeling.

Sucks I can get a 5 guys pretty easy, but In N Out is states away.

My fat roommate is 86ing himself from FF for his new years resolution lol. Terrible terrible idea. I crushed some Wendy's in front of him last night. It was delicious. Feelsgoodman.jpg

It seems to me that the ground beef at Taco Bell has really gone downhill the last few years so I've been avoiding it. I remember getting basic items there like a soft taco and the meat was extremely greasy and didn't seem seasoned at all. After that I went there and got a chicken quesadilla, and they didn't cook it, like it was just shredded cheese on it, unmelted. I'm pretty much done with the place but I'd probably hit it up for a chili cheese burrito.

its not really "fast" food, but costco has some pretty insane deals on their grub..

1.50 for hotdog + drink

and how can you not love their greasy ass pizza.

and can we say, chickenbake?

You are a true pro.

The hot dog is no Sabretts but solid nonetheless... for 1.50 with a pretty big sized drink... the value is unbeatable. I cannot leave costco without a hot dog and soda.

The pizza is about the same price (5-7$) as little caesers (
hot n ready) but clearly larger. Depending on the costco location there can be up to a 10 min wait for a whole pie. Less in my experience. Slices are on demand.

There have been plenty of times i've ordered a much larger costco pizza for 6 bucks instead of grabbing a pizza hut pie for 10 bucks.

The 50$ or so you spend on the membership is def +ev imo if you have a family and spend a bunch on groceries or travel a lot (gas is cheap).

Edit: Hell, i've had costco since i turned 18 and cant think of a year where i even thought twice about renewing it. I'm sure Sam's Club is right there if not better, I've just never been. Anyone had a membership to both? opinions? Specifically, food you can order there "to go".

Just had a Hot Mama at Grill'D and homemade ones aside its probably the best burger I've had. For $12 you could get like a mountain of cheeseburgers in America though.

still don't get why they smash 5 guys burgers after flipping them. like them none the less but still don't get it.

smashing burgers on the flip is an expert move imo. it increases the final crispiness of the sear. i do it all the time when grilling.

doesn't every reliable source ever advise against it? results in dry meat or something?
New fast food discussion/review thread Quote

Yes, smashing down just squeezes the moisture out! A little pressure might create a better sear, but I don't.

Moisture/grease/etc has never been a problem for me with a five guys burger

What are people's thoughts on whether it's actually "safer" to eat fast food in terms of risk of food poisoning versus eating food from an average non-gourmet restaurant? Given the $$/PR risks involved (remember what happened at Jack in the Box in 1993), I figure places like McDs and BK have to go overboard in making sure that their eggs, meat, etc. are prepared in a way where even if they had salmonella or e.coli that the cooking process would kill it. Of course there can always be issues with food handling or freshness, but I'm talking about the more nasty stuff like salmonella or e.coli.

i have both...not saying this is the standard to live by when comparing them, could just be the stores near me but.....

the samples at costco are MILES ahead of sams club samples, its a joke really.

the produce at costco is so much fresher compared to sams, 90% of blueberries at sams are moldy CONSISTENTLY and the mangos/pineapple in a plastic container look ****ing awful at sams...

ive actually priced all the stuff i was looking for while im starting my restaurant and everything i have looked at is cheaper at costco than sams for the same brand literally...the lemon juice is like 18c cheaper, the chocolate chips are cheaper, the water is cheaper etc etc

costco has a business center here in vegas that is awesome...has all kinds of **** that a regular costco/sams doesnt. the variety of bulk meat, tons of beverages you cant get at a regular costco, a lot more variety of cups/bowls/and utensils...a huge freezer section dedicated to the dessert business, yogurt mixes/3 gal tubs of ice cream/sherbert/pre chopped toppings mix ins/etc etc.

the meat at costco is better...i just had a rack of lamb from sams and i used to always get them there, then i had costco for about 4 or 5 racks in a row and was just at sams a week ago and thought id get one there since it looked good.....wrong. It could have just been the rack i got but FFS there was so many little bones cut off poorly that were just jagging out of the meat, was such a pain in the ass.

also just got costco prime filet for the first time....LOL @ how delicious they were when i made them, hands down best filet ive ever had/made/eaten and the wife agreed...i have gotten them at sams before and they were ok/good but not compared to costco.

the desserts are better, fresher, more variety at costco also

the electronics are even better at costco, they have bigger and more variety of the new flat tvs, sams club has had the same lame choices forever now, they arent updating with the times

the one thing sams will always (hopefully!) be better at than costco in my eyes is the rotisserie chicken....i find costcos to be smaller, not as juicy, and much saltier than sams which is just so delicious

my wife says that the clothes section is about even, she will buy from both places with my money she dont give a fackkkk. the jewelry section she said goes to costco though.

the snack bar is about even, i like both clubs hotdogs and pizza

the check out system is nice at costco since they have the self scan, so when you have like 5-10 items and can do it yourself you dont have to wait behind the people that have literally 800 items on 3 carts....at sams i just go to the photo center and they check me out (hint hint)

even though it sounds like i ripped sams club, i wouldnt give up one membership for the other, if you can swing the $50/year or whatever it is and go to both i think its worth it because you will find things that are better at one place than the other and cheaper, or that one club has and the other doesnt...but i do have to give a small edge to costco

my local costcos don't have self-checkouts or cashiers at the photo counter but they will check you out for <10 items at the pharmacy counter if you're nice to them.

+1 on the rotisserie chicken, costco's are inferior to almost anyone else's

Maybe it's just a Canadian thing but the costco rotisserie chickens here are > than any other around.

Costco 1.2kg chicken vs 700-800g everywhere else.

I find the costco chicken to be way juicer with a better, crispier skin (gotta eat that delicious skin!) and it's still cheaper than anywhere else around.

1.2kg chicken @ Costco is $7.49.

~800g chicken at Safeway is $8.99.

The hotdog/pop combo used to be $1.99 here but 6mos ago they dropped the price to $1.50.
