I know you tried to explain it, but I still have no idea what Midnight Gospel is

True. I should've mentioned that, as this isn't a MLB-centric thread. Thanks for pointing that out.

Just busting chops of course but this is so crazy to me, lol.

I am pushing 40 and the only DVD i've handled in the past 3-4 years is a hand-me-down kids show for my 4 year old. Don't we just stream everything?

I remember living right next door to a video rental place about 5 years ago. On a whim, my lady and I went in one night and man it was like we won a contest or something. They offered so many new membership deals it was crazy. We walked out with 4 movies for a dollar, with basically no threat of a late charge. The store was actually combined with a pizza place, and you could order a pizza and they would apparently return your old DVDs when delivering you a pizza.

We were quite blown away, thinking "whoa maybe these places are cool again!" and were excited to frequent the business while we lived at that apartment. That is, of course, until we tried to actually watch one of the movies. Every single one of them was scratched to **** and couldn't complete an entire film without skipping huge chunks.

"Oh yeah, I remember why this sucks."

If you want to wait like 1 or 2 years after movies hit the theater then they might hit some of the streaming services, or HBO, Starz, etc.

They come out on DVD much faster. Unless you are illegally downloading/streaming.

Unless you want to pay $6 a pop to stream them once DVD comes out, or $20 now while they are in the theater. Which neither of those is very appealing to me.

At most that cycle is reduced to 6 to 9 months now. Most of the movies that HBO premiered in March had July and August theatrical releases.

Ok, so you are saying Joker should hit HBO, etc. very soon right? It has been 6.5 months so far. Meanwhile I watched it on DVD when it came out like 2 months ago.

I have all the movie channels and there is less than 1 decent movie premier a week including all of them. This week its Hustlers on Showtime and that is all, hit theater a little over 6 months ago, I saw it on DVD.

Digital renting is more like $3.

Your "1 or 2 years" comment is way off mark. Those days are long gone.

Only the really crappy ones would be $3 to stream when DVD comes out, most are $6. If I am wrong about that please tell me some examples, I would for sure do a bunch for $3 if they were good.

I am talking HD or better.

Joker is currently $3.99 in 4k on both youtube and google play.

Some recent examples are, Just mercy, Underwater, Like a Boss, and Bad Boys for Life.
All are 5.99 for HD. And Like a Boss is a crappy movie for sure.

Yea, Joker was on DVD like 2 months ago. I am talking fresh DVD releases.

I am not really arguing, You made me look into it further and I see, sometimes 6 to 8 weeks after DVD release the price might drop $2 down to $4. At that point it wouldn't be too much longer till it hit Movie channels or Netflix, etc. so why bother.

I nitpick price on these because I spend too much already, Cable bill with internet and all channels is like $240/mo, plus Netflix, Prime, and sometimes Hulu.

That's why getting an average of 3 or 4 new DVD movies for free from the library is nice, versus these other options. And sometimes the Netflix DVD plan, but that isn't working good now anyway because too many using it.

So I guess for now $6 for 4 or 5 new DVD release streams a month(doubt there would be more than that worth it) is the best option.

Joker, 2019 (5/16) on HBO, I guess its not really worth paying for any of them, may as well just wait for them to hit the movie channels, etc.

I think your real leak is having a cable bill. Do cable or do Netflix/Hulu/etc, don't do both.

For anyone who enjoys fishing, check out Pure Fly NZ on Amazon Prime.
It is hands down the most spectacular fishing show I've ever watched. The episodes are filmed in New Zealand and focus on fly fishing - primarily sight fishing for monstrous brown and rainbow trout. The fishing, scenery, and everything about the production is just breathtaking.

Currently 2 seasons available. Go watch

You think we're gonna come full circle and have people prefer Blu Ray once they start throttling internet more?

I get it. If you are watching 3-4 just released movies a month that makes sense.

Try Yesterday. It just became available on one of those cable networks.

It's a great concept and decent execution.

7.5/10.

I didn't realize Narcos had 3 seasons, for some reason I stopped after S1 a couple years ago. It's obviously great. I thought Tata was pretty damn good looking in S1 and 2, but Salazars wife in S3 is great too.
