13 Reasons Why was quite good. Last episode is really well done but tough to watch

I never really cared about their recommendations, but they were laughably bad for me. Like 5 star Platoon, they throw Chuck Norris at me. You recently watched Louie, Hows about some Big Bang Theory or Two Broke Girls? Copland, You'll love NCIS. I also gave a lot of 3's and 4's (never 2's though, weird huh?).

How many shows had you rated? It should be able to differentiate between Louie & some studio sitcom if you gave it enough feedback.

Vertigo 56% match?!? I'd previously rated it 5 stars!!!

1000+

the Louie-2 broke girls stuff was a bit of an exaggeration but it did seem to key in on vastly different levels of quality within a genre. Yes, I like Alien, no, I don't like CW scifi shows.

Anything good on Hitler's rise to power? Doesn't have to be on Netflix.

Hitler - A Career is really good. It's nothing more than 2.5 hours of excellent footage with a narrator.

Agree

Nitpicking, not really a spoiler:
Spoiler:
There's no way a pharmacist with 1 kid, who goes to public school/works and a wife that works, and doesn't show off money would ever be broke.

Full disclose I watched Season week by week as it aired on AMC and though it dragged just a bit, but it is a great show that seemed to find it's stride in the 2nd season. I can't think of a show that improved more between it's 1st and 2nd season.
Halt and Catch Fire is awesome.

My bf really enjoyed this but it didn't grab me in the first episode so I faded away. I should probably give it another chance as a heap of people here rate it highly.

it's a great show but it's not going to grab anyone from the get go. S1 gets on a nice run near the end, then as mentioned S2 is a big leap, and (a little more debatable), S3 is another leap. i love it.

Yeti,

My bf said something similar in that I needed to give it a chance, he was sure it would grow on me. I'll give it another go.

I saw the Dave Chappelle comedy special. I thought it would be better, but it was still decently funny.

omg the animated show Bordertown is quite possibly THE WORST THING I HAVE SEEN ON NETFLIX. I love crude humor animated shows, but this show is sooooooooooooooo bad 90% of the jokes are just racial slurs w/ no context. omg I can't put into words just how bad this show is. Only watch if you have some macabre fascination w/ trainwrecks.

I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish. I'm familiar with the musical history part and the era overall as it essentially gave birth to disco which gave birth to house music and of course the beginning of hip-hop...Which enormously influenced pop-cuture from then till now and still building - The seeds of it are all pretty much shown as they get planted and begin to grow in this series.

It's done in that slightly surreal Baz Luhrmann visual style making segments of it a lil' cartoon'ish in a sense - But it really works for this series which I guess is a musical in a sense albeit an incredibly modern one.

Just really really good imo and 100% worth checking out. Again can't believe noone has mentioned it yet.

Dredging up these old reviews of The Get Down from 8 months ago as I'd say I agree with both of them 5 episodes in. It's really fun, and fast, and full of life. Unlike Barry above I'm not familiar with the music history aspect of it at all, or even particularly into hip-hop, but it's an interesting story regardless and as a not-ancient person it's also interesting to see the gritty, dirty setting of 1970s NYC that I haven't really seen much before.

Anyway, topical to bring up this show again as part 2 (5 more episodes, to go with the 6 episodes released earlier) was just released last week. The first ep (of part 1) is 90 minutes and you'll probably have a good idea from watching it whether you'd like the show or not.

Watched a pretty good documentary about the University of Texas tower shootings called Tower. It gives close to a minute by minute account of the shootings from several people involved, including the men who eventually climbed the tower to take the shooter down.

The only thing that was odd to me was that the majority of the film is animated with voice actors representing the actual participants. They do mix in news clips and on the scene videos taken as well and eventually interviews with the survivors. Once the seriousness of the events kick in though, you almost forget it is animation you are watching and become really invested in these people's stories.
