Saying Friends is a great show is like strapping the word great to the number 6 on a scale of 10. It just doesn't make sense. It's just another sitcom that lasted too long.

Quality incorrect lukewarm take there

I'm a 29 yr old male, I've probably seen every episode of friends at least 10 times. The reruns can just be watched over and over and still be good, like Seinfeld. I used to just watch it in the afternoon on TBS, they'd run the seasons in order 4 episodes at a time every afternoon

Show is high quality, and is ranked in the Imdb top 50 which has an extreme recency bias and includes non-sitcoms

Yup friends pretty great, huge lol at being too manly for it. If you don't enjoy it that's your welcome opinion but glass in the eye was a bit extreme...

I'm a 28 y/o male. I liked House of cards, Breaking Bad, Bojack, It's always sunny, workaholics, Flaked was surprisingly good, I like documentaries quite a bit.

Basically, if I have to watch another episode of Dexter, Friends, big bang theory, or some other crappy drama/sitcom with my girlfriend because we can't decide on something i'm going to slit my wrists.

The art of flight was really good, you guys seen that? Great relaxing flick watching kids snowboard.
Trailer park boys

32 year old male. Not ashamed to admit I still lol at least once per episode. It can be quirky and hit or miss at times, but the journey you take with each character (while laughing your ass off) makes it worth it. I also grew up with 3 younger sisters who were obsessed with it.

Anyone remember the show "Coupling?" Yeah, me either.

I dont think its that hard an ask for critically acclaimed TV that the whole family can invest in.

A good example imo, would be something like LOTR, great world building, characters, story, good balance of scary stuff/violence, obviously amazing source material, hobbits,no awkward sexy time. etc etc.

Something like that serialised for TV to the appropriate production level could be appointment TV for the whole family.

Obviously LOTR has been done, but it cant be the only decent source material out there of which the above applies.
Try The Shanara Chronicles

SE has its own television thread.

If you think not liking Friends is some outlier opinion, try posting in there that Friends is a "great" show or mentioning it in the same breath as Seinfield.

Basically a bit lower brow in here.

Will check it out, thanks!

While it might have went on for too long, it ran for 10 seasons, even if you cut 2 seasons off, that is 160+ episodes of very good to great quality. That is the definition of great tv.

Friends is first-level humor at best. There are much better sitcoms out there.

Dave Chappelle returning to TV with three new comedy specials on Netflix [latimes.com]
First he tackled “Saturday Night Live,” and now groundbreaking comedian Dave Chappelle has his sights set on Netflix.

The Internet TV network announced Monday that the comedian, along with director Stan Lathan, would produce a new stand-up comedy special for Netflix in 2017.

But wait, there’s more.

Netflix will also air two never-before-seen specials from Chappelle’s comedy vault, featuring performances filmed at Austin City Limits and the Hollywood Palladium. These releases will be Chappelle’s first concert specials in 12 years.

I googled, results were inconclusive.

And I'd have to pay and renew Netflix to check there. I want to know before I pay. Novel concept, I know.

ur gonna sign up for Netflix just to watch the insiders?

if that's really the case they have a 30 day free trial you can just sign up for that and cancel after the 30 trial membership ends.

I don't qualify for a 30 day free trial as I said:

And the movie is The Outsiders, not the insiders. JFC, you snark me and you can't even read.

That being said I saw True Memoirs of an International Assassin and I thought it was decently entertaining.

Although I'm definitely a Kevin James fan fyi.
