Watched Election yesterday which has Reese Witherspoon and Ferris Beuhler.

6/10 worth a watch while cruising the internet or something

I thought election was pretty solid. I've seen it a couple of times.

I recall really liking Election when I saw it in the theater. Had kind of a Heathers vibe. May have to give it another watch.

2 classic movies just added again worth checking out are Chinatown ad The French Connection. 2 Classic films that really hold up well.

Anybody seen The Quick And The Dead (1995)? Looks like a western with Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Sharon Stone. Reviews look bad, but I'm just surprised I've never heard of it.

4 stars for me, worth a watch

Used to play all time time on cable back in the day.

I've watched it at least a couple of times when I was a kid. I can't really remember it too much in detail, but my recollection is that it was a pretty fun, certainly watchable movie. But I've always been a sucker for "concept films" like that - the duel thing in this case.

Also, it's directed by Sam Raimi.

I enjoyed Quick and the Dead...I don't like many westerns either, but I like that one

Chinatown is amazing; anyone who hasn't seen that needs to

I haven't seen Election since it was in theater, but I remember it as a good dark comedy

I think I saw that back in the day. Left no lasting impressions.

Love this movie, mostly for the directing by Raimi. If you like films at all for their directing and editing, watch carefully. Some of the shots are really incredible and have that specific Raimi touch to them. Cast is great as well.

Yep totally agree. Also, not sure if it was mentioned but Robocop was just added

Post thoughts afterward. I don't think it's some kind of classic, but I have it on my "movies to suggest to people" list

If anyone is into MSNBC's Lockup or anything like that, I just noticed Hard Time is up on netflix. Follows Georgia's max prison for a much longer time (1 year) condensed into 6 episodes, and includes an epic prison escape.

I thought it was close to the best of the "prison documentary" genre, so anyone who's into that will probably enjoy it.

Been watching some coming-of-age type stuff since I rewatched Stand By Me again. If roughly that genre interests you, I really really enjoyed The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys.

Not crazy about the third act, but overall it's well worth the time, several really good performances (I think maybe the first big role for Emile Hirsch...was clear already he was going to be a star.).

Just watched the first episode. I like the idea of following a few inmates and corrections officers over a year, rather than just week to week shows at different places.

On a related note, I've been thinking about how much I'd have to get paid to be a prison guard. I really don't know but definitely at least $250k/year. And they'd have to allow me to buy and wear some sort of kevlar vest or possibly a full swat suit with riot gear. **** is crazy. (outside of the cushy federal places, if the stories are true)

They recently opened up a new prison near where I grew up. My buddy's younger brother is super into the MMA stuff and took a job there because apparently it was one of the only jobs who could find that would provide health insurance that fully covered his fighting hobby.

Outside of a reason like that it is pretty surprising that people are willing to do the job for such low pay. I think those guys make around 50k/yr max, although like most state jobs the benefits and retirement are pretty solid.

Sherlock (BBC series) is excellent. On par with True Detective. It's organized as a series of nine 90 minute movies, basically.
