The Dead Don't Die - a small town zombie horror/comedy by jim jarmusch. jarmusch is hit or miss for me. enjoyed both ghost dog and only lovers left alive, but nothing else that he's done. this one certainly falls in the didn't enjoy category. fantastic cast including bill murray, tilda swinton, adam driver, danny glover, steve buscemi, chloe sevigny and more. but it's a jarmusch movie so it has all the jarmusch stuff that comes with that including wooden performances, overuse of deadpan humor, irrelevant dialogue, and weird editing.
He Never Died - had no clue what this was about upon watching, other than it had henry rollins as some kind of immortal recluse. it's described as a horror comedy movie, but it isn't. violent black comedy, sure. if you enjoy rollins' work, you will enjoy this. it's a small movie, and doesn't try to be anything more than that. rollins does a great job. the writing is great, and the direction is enjoyable to the point that i watched a few scenes multiple times just because of how well put together they were. the focus is on showing rather than telling, and you may be left with a few questions after it's over.
Hereafter - been meaning to get around to this one for years. clint eastwood movie about how death affects three different unrelated characters. good performances. story is so-so, and because the film keeps jumping back and forth between the different sub-stories, it's slow. mood and overall theme are both enjoyable. even bryce dallas howard can't ruin this one.
