He needs to learn the fundamentals of tackling, blocking, how to take a hit from a 250 pound linebacker with bad intentions, and most importantly, teamwork. Anyone can kick a 60 yard field goal when there's no defense but that aint football.

Seriously this. Record some videos, post on youtube, get people to see them. Just do whatever it takes to get his name out there. Talk to high school coaches that you know have relationships with college coaches/recruits.

rofl have you ever actually seen a kicking play? kicking is like bowling or golfing, if he can kick a 60 yard field goal he can kick a 60 yard field goal and the rest is just an afterthought at that point. kickers taking hits from linebackers

Could he actually kick it over a line of scrimmage 60 yards? Got a badminton net or something to put up in front of him for the video?

The game is football not just kicking. Ever see a kickoff? The kicker doesn't just run off the field he's supposed to be the last line of defense. They wear pads and everything. Its football, not just a strong leg contest. Kid might have potential but you gotta start with the fundamentals, this aint soccer.

I'm sure there are kicking camps he can go to or something. Probably a combination of that and sending out tapes would be the best way to proceed. And maybe look for a kicking coach.

guess it wasnt a level

of course the game of football isnt just kicking, but kicking is unlike any other position in that its based around controlling all factors and repeating the same motion. the kicker might as well run off the field after kickoff; theyre not taking down hester and are just embarrassed 90% of the time a return man gets to them, and 95% of the time the play ends like 50yds+ away from them. theyre almost never in danger barring stuff like bumbled/bad snaps on punts... and even then they get 15yds if the defense looks at them funny.

basically if a kid nails 90% of kicks at 50yds its totally laughable that a coach would be like, "ehhh, his tackling sucks, get him outa here!"

There was no net used, but this is exactly the same way he kicked the 63 yarder.

Only difference was that we were using this instead of me holding.

Now again, this guy is skinny. He doesn't lift any weights at all. He is pretty tall though , 5'11. Video will be uploaded tomorrow afternoon.

I'd start out with Harrington On Hold Em, bit out dated but it should give him a base of knowledge.

Is he graduating in June? If not then have him try out for the high school team next year. Have him talk to the high school football coach anyway, he will probably have good advice on what his next step should be.

wow, you've hit the jackpot, someone around you has the possibility of becoming the 2p2 father's dream profession: placekicker. but seriously, convert him to punter, it's much lower stress. a few bad FG kicks and his career could be over.

Well you might want to get him started on that. Aorn he's a soccer kid with no business on a football field. Unless you think the helmet and shoulder pads are just for decoration. Good news is he's young, he just needs some time with a good coach to learn the fundamentals and sounds like a lot of work to do in the weight room. Some meat and potatoes at the dinner table wouldn't hurt either. But yeah, he's not a football player yet. Far from it.

Read A Few Seconds of Panic by Stefan Fatsis. It's all about pro kicking. The writer tried to kick for the Denver Broncos during one pre-season.

I doubt that your neighbor's kid is that special, to be honest.

Was his father Sidd Finch?

From the article: Sidd Finch In its April 1985 edition, Sports Illustrated published an article by George Plimpton that described an incredible rookie baseball player who was training at the Mets camp in St. Petersburg, Florida. The player was named Sidd Finch (Sidd being short for Siddhartha, the Indian mystic in Hermann Hesse’s book of the same name). He could reportedly pitch a baseball at 168 mph with pinpoint accuracy.

Hope this was a level but if not I hope you do realize that many teams have different kickers for Kickoffs and Field Goals.

So you weren't using a tee of any type? That makes this even more legit as alot of the HS kids kicking 50+ yard field goals are used to kicking off a tee.

To anyone who doubts this kid could play somewhere, if he can make a 60 yarder at a 50% clip with no tee and doesn't have some major issue with nerves, etc. he is already better than many pro kickers.
