You're so fired.

Or not.

But you should definitely go and see him as soon as possible. If you're fired at least you won't waste time on your plan.

Two clarifications.

1) "Fired" was the wrong word. 6 of the 17 won't have positions for next year. All 17 will finish this current year with a job.

2) This isn't me, its my wife. No way I could be a teacher.

Unfortunately I'm going with fired.

That second bump seems too hard. Like the first bump is nice and you get a good shake. The second is just much too violent. That said, I watched it for about 2 straight minutes.

Yeah, unfortunately. The "come see me" email is the workplace version of "we need to talk."
05-18-2011 , 09:46 AM
but the exclamation point is a dick move if you plan on firing so i'm going not fired
05-18-2011 , 09:47 AM
Unless he blanket emailed everyone with the same sub/body to avoid the "am i fired or not" talk with in each other.
Yea totally start looking for a new gig.

So here are my thoughts on the issue.

In a real business I agree that the "come see me" is generally bad news. But this is education where basically everyone in administration is an idiot. Also, the principal has to let all 17 know either way, so it's doubtful she is only calling in the ones that don't have a position next year.

On top of that, the exclamation point in the subject seems odd for bad news.

And lastly, calling someone in during the middle of the day on a Wednesday to tell them they don't have a job next year seems off as well.

My original point that administration is full of idiots works against my ideas as well though.

I am on the fence about this. I hate her job so much, way too much time/stress for not enough money, and we would be ok if she got canned and had to do something else for awhile. Plus she would be getting paid all summer and would have a few months to find something else. But she really loves being around the kids and will be upset. Blah.

Principal is a woman btw.
05-18-2011 , 09:53 AM
Yeah, things like the exclamation point can be easily explained by the sender of the email being a yutz.

And yes I'm going to work my small but larger-than-most knowledge of Yiddish into as many posts as possible.

My wife is twisting in the wind on a job right now. What's great is that women are so rational about business stuff. So have a great week!

What a crappy way to tell someone they don't have a job next year. On a Wednesday morning so she has to go back and teach for the rest of the day/week. At least do it after school so she can just leave for the day.

Education is so screwed up. At her last school (in her 2nd year teaching) she was nominated for Teacher of the Year. And at this school she was nominated for 1st year Teacher of the Year. And now no job.

Crossing my fingers that this is the impetus for her getting out of the classroom. Good timing with her starting her Masters in education two months ago, but hopefully she can finish that and get a job related to education (textbooks/literacy coach/etc) that isn't actually in the classroom.

Some people think post counts are kinda silly. I don't even know what my 37k post was.

My one employee who is just weird as dicks and doesn't know how to talk to people is making small talk with my other employee who has a significant hearing disability. It's like hearing the worst conversation ever, with the worst parts of it repeated twice in a slow condescending manner. I would rather listen to somebody rape my Dad than have to hear this.

My impressions is that public education is very similar to University world. Being a good teacher gets you promoted to the point where you'd suddenly and administrator, and it's a totally different set of skills. More MBAs, less PHDs plz.

This seems to be the problem and was the question I would've asked. I think the best predictor of whether or not your wife gets fired has nothing to do with the email and everything to do with seniority. Sorry about that.

I'm here now! Got in yesterday morning, here until friday afternoon. We're off of 22nd and E Camelback, so unfortunately a bit too far for Casino Arizona . But there is a Bruegger's bagels nearby, and I'm in IT so we're always up for coffee.

Also John McCain just opened a shiny new office on the first floor, so if you want to come yell at an intern about online poker you can. Bring the dog!

I've been coming out pretty much every other week, although this will probably be last trip for a month since project leader's wife is about to have a baby and he won't be able to travel until she pops.

In general, yes. In this specific case there are 17 first year in the county teachers; 10 are safe, 7 have no job next year.

In lighter news, one of the guys at my golf club has a sister who has done some work for Playboy, and she was in town last night having dinner at the club.

Absolutely NSFW link.

She actually looked better in person imo.
