It's pretty obvious why these people are a little suspicious of outsiders. That might have been their king and queen for all we know.

I know nothing, but seems a colony of 50 folks wouldn't last too long if nothing else due to inbreeding issues and the general lack of breeding aged women at any given time. But what do I know.

In their heyday they probably had lot more people, and intermingled with other nearby islands.

Allegedly the tsunami of 2004 reduced their numbers somewhat. They've survived for literally tens of thousands of years, humans might be more durable than we thought.

Not anymore unstable than thousands of other Christians who think it is their duty to proselytize. Aside from the incredibly obnoxious aggressive preaching those types engage in they absolutely love, LOVE the idea of being a martyr. Nothing makes them happier than the idea that they are being persecuted.

Nah, man, these kids are impressionable and fed all sorts of stories about people who suffered greatly for their religion. The stories never quite say how they got into these situations, who did it, or why the administrators of this suffering gave a ****.

For example, my friend told me a story about some guy who had to stand 3 inches from a white wall for several days, yet wouldn't sacrifice his faith. He wasn't sure if his own faith was strong enough to do something like that.

I guess if you believe every pair of animal was placed on a canoe, you can believe stories like that.

WaPo said the guy was an "Instagram Adventurer". That makes a ton more sense.

Whenever I see someone doing something publicly stupid these days I assume they are trying to become IG famous.

I work near a major university. There is a young couple who live in their car, and they pretty much do everything they can to advertise it. Like they hang laundry out and are always outside brushing their teeth and stuff. Twice a week they have to move to a new spot because of street cleaning. I'm assuming they're hoping to be hassled so they can get it filmed and turn it into a national story about broke college kids living in their car.

The worst part about missionaries is that if they just leave the natives alone, those natives are saved, because they are "innocent," and do not know about Jesus, Lord and Savior. By proselytizing and letting the natives know all about Jesus, the missionaries are putting those natives at risk of damnation.

At least, according to a lot of those missionaries.

God, religion is so ****ing stupid.
