I think it's just that it's not humanly possible to make that many mistakes in a piece of music. There is a strange logic to it all.

To put it more in perspective, they were all taking lessons, and their father forbade them from listening to any music.

In anecdote, they would sometimes stop during the recording, saying they made a mistake. The sound engineers had no clue how the girls would know that at all, which indicates that they really practiced this material. They were also capable of playing this music live, which sounds impossible from the record.

Later on, recordings of them playing normal surfaced, so they actually could play. It's hard to say how much of the music was controlled by their father or how much of it was them sticking their middle finger up at him.

Another highly influential band you never heard of, despite being promoted hard by no less than Perl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, and many other 90s bands:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Frogs_(band)

The Frogs are mentioned quite often in interviews and album liner notes. The band is often seen hob-nobblng with a who's who of stars, playing backup for major bands, and doing openings. Nearly no one has heard of them except for their biggest fans, yet they have the honor of being held up by Pat Robertson and the 700 Club as proof of Satan's hold on the music industry.

Once again, I'll let the curious discover the music for themselves.

I don't know. I don't know much about films and wouldn't know what The Room is beyond hearsay. I don't even know what the plot is.

I guess if it influenced a lot of your favorite directors, then sure? idk.

Not really a fan of his singing, but I think the music itself is interesting. With a different singer, his music would probably be incredible. I think everyone ought to give Trout Mask Replica a listen and make up their own mind -- which I suppose is what you are referring to the most here?

These two pieces are unique and nice-sounding to me:

the first line is about poop, but then the guitar playing is just beautiful here:

I never felt the urge to really dig into his discography beyond some curious moments, which I'm now doing...

Exemplary of what is going on in Brazil -

Marielle Franco was a politician, feminist, and human rights activist who was recently assasinated along with her driver.
There are reams of accounts of - for example - a bar owner arrested for simply trying to observe a minute's silence in commemoration of her (not in the wiki, this I know from an article by Marcelo Backes).

The KLF

Quote:
The KLF (also known as The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, furthermore known as The JAMs and The Timelords and by other names) were a British electronic band of the late 1980s and early 1990s.[4]

Beginning in 1987, Bill Drummond (alias King Boy D) and Jimmy Cauty (alias Rockman Rock) released hip hop-inspired and sample-heavy records as the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, and on one occasion (the British number one hit single "Doctorin' the Tardis") as the Timelords. The KLF released a series of international hits on their own KLF Communications record label and became the biggest-selling singles act in the world for 1991.[5] The duo also published a book, The Manual (How to Have a Number One the Easy Way), and worked on a road movie called The White Room.

From the outset, they adopted the philosophy espoused by esoteric novel series The Illuminatus! Trilogy, gaining notoriety for various anarchic situationist manifestations, including the defacement of billboard adverts, the posting of prominent cryptic advertisements in NME magazine and the mainstream press, and highly distinctive and unusual performances on Top of the Pops. Their most notorious performance was a collaboration with Extreme Noise Terror (and Barney Greenaway of Napalm Death) at the February 1992 BRIT Awards, where they fired machine gun blanks into the audience and dumped a dead sheep at the aftershow party. After this performance the duo departed the music business and, in May 1992, deleted their entire back catalogue.

With the KLF's profits, Drummond and Cauty established the K Foundation and sought to subvert the art world, staging an alternative art award for the worst artist of the year and burning one million pounds sterling. Drummond and Cauty remained true to their word of May 1992; the KLF Communications catalogue remains deleted in the UK, but The White Room is still being pressed in the U.S. by Arista. They have released a small number of new tracks since then, as the K Foundation, the One World Orchestra and most recently, in 1997, as 2K.
The thing about burning a million pounds sounds familiar, but I never knew any of the story behind it.

I liked this article. It seems so American to preserve a story for no reason beyond the telling, yet people live the legend like it's always been true.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_W._Lawson_(ship)

The Thomas W Lawson is the largest sailing ship ever built. It was the last gasps of a bygone era, as steam ships were taking over the shipping business.

The short-lived boat sank a few years later, in 1907, dumping 58,000 barrels of light paraffin oil caused, perhaps the first large marine oil spill.

Glaucus Atlanticus AKA Blue Dragon

A sea slug that can float and preys on venomous jellyfish. It extracts the toxins from the jellyfish and stores it in its appendages for later use.

After they’ve fed on poisonous jellyfish, they have the ability to concentrate that poison within their bodies and unleash a sting more powerful than that of the jellyfish they ate.

Marvin John Heemeyer

(October 28, 1951 – June 4, 2004) was an American welder and an automobile muffler repair shop owner most known for his rampage with a modified bulldozer. Outraged over zoning disputes, he armored a Komatsu D355A bulldozer with layers of steel and concrete and used it on June 4, 2004 to demolish the town hall, the former mayor's house, and other buildings in Granby, Colorado. The rampage ended when the bulldozer got stuck in the basement of a Gambles store he was in the process of destroying. Heemeyer then killed himself with a handgun.

Docheff tried to stop the assault on his concrete batch plant by using a wheel tractor-scraper, which was pushed aside by Heemeyer's bulldozer.

Le Pétomane

Apparently there is a profession called a "flatulist," which means a professional farter.

If that isn't strange but true enough, this article gets into more specifics. He discovered his rare talent while "swimming in the sea. He put his head under the water and held his breath, whereupon he felt an icy cold penetrating his rear. He ran ashore in fright and was amazed to sense water pouring from his anus."

The article goes into details about the mechanics, the act, and future cultural references.

I give you the Calcio Storico, which is some sort of weird combination of soccer, rugby, and MMA that has been played in Florence, Italy since the Renaissance.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcio_Fiorentino

Here are some highlights from the article.

Quote:
For decades, this violent match has resulted in severe injuries, including death. During the early decades, in order to encourage wagering and achieve a bettable winner, there were times when bulls would be ushered into the ring in hopes of adding confusion and inciting victory. The modern version of calcio has not changed much from its historical roots, which allow tactics such as head-butting, punching, elbowing, and choking. However due to often fatal injuries, sucker punches and kicks to the head are currently banned.
Quote:
Each team has 27 players and no substitutions are allowed for injured or expelled players. . . . A small cannon shot announces the beginning of the event. The game starts when the Pallaio[clarification needed] throws and kicks the ball toward the center line, then at the first whistle as the ball first rests on field, 15 forwards or Corridori begin fighting in a wild mixed martial arts match- punching, kicking, tripping, hacking, tackling, and wrestling with each other in an effort designed to tire opponents' defenses, but which often descends into an all-out brawl. They try to pin and force into submission as many players possible. Once there are enough incapacitated players, the other teammates come and swoop up the ball and head to the goal.
Here is a video.

My wife is attending this event in a few hours. I'll report back on any highlights.

For some people, wearing diapers and peeing themselves while getting spanked by transgender a dominatrix is the greatest experience of their life every time they do it.

I have no interest in partaking in said adventure, nor do I wish to go SCUBA diving.
