Sorry. I've got death and destruction in one tab, and a bunch of passive, ignorant trolls in another. I live for the positive posts...

OP: I'm not trolling you. I think you are legit and have the best intentions. I also think that you are much better off staying home and dealing with your emotional issues than fighting in a war that you barely understand. You don't seem to have done a tremendous amount of research into this extremely complicated situation (which isn't really your job. As a rifemen your job is to carry out missions, not decide whether they should be done. but now that you're choosing for yourself your missions it's a little more important). For instance; what happens if ISIS is degraded/defeated? It's possible (to me) that the US government decides a united Iraq is of paramount importance and loses patience with Kurdish separatist groups, placing them back on terrorist watch lists. Would you say there's even a 5% chance of that happening?

Well you could've fooled me.

I really don't care what happens after the beheadings, hotels filled with room after room of women being raped and children being sold into stops. Do not give one ****, zero ****s.

yea im a bit worried that there's a chance you might end up fighting against groups of people who aren't part of ISIS, or fighting alongside people whose objectives aren't what you signed up to fight for

i do think that given your expertise you can make a real positive difference to innocent people who are in desperate need. just make damn sure you are informed as much as possible before going

Eliott, I did want to say, having read this thread, that you need to be much more careful with your personal info going forward. (Particularly on other forums.) Those posts about loan sharks giving out money were just messing around with people and you should be very careful about not getting ripped off.

This section of the forum is a bit more wide open and not everyone in OOT is vetted.

lol. how cute. you still think american soldiers are the good guys?

and yes, they did basically rape and murder relatively openly... it was only in a few token cases where the soldiers got in trouble. these scum soldiers even rape and murder their own female soldiers. it wasn't necessarily sanctioned by the US military... but they do cover it up in most cases.

Thanks man, that's a great point... I'll keep that in mind, for the most part I'll try to stay on the hip of guys like Jordan Matson, and hope for the best.

You are so full of ****. You act like you ever served. The US military numbers in hundreds of thousands, and you think your blanket statements accurately cover it? Are you ****ing dense?

Makes me feel better knowing he's been this dumb for awhile and it wasn't sparked by me.

Thanks man, I appreciate the well-wishing just as much. I would love some Kurdish audiobooks, I already have Rosetta Stone for Arabic.

Why would he get banned? He said American troops raped and murdered innocent women and children in Iraq, which is a fact. He didn't say they weren't criminals nor did he say the US military sanctioned or condoned those actions -- perhaps you should look up straw man fallacies after you're done learning about Boko Haram.

Massively in favor of banning GreenMagi from this thread if possible.

GreenMagi: There's an ISIS thread in Politics, take your Alex Jones BS over there.

1) I'm Canadian.
2) I would never join the army/police given what they are today. I don't act like I've served.
3) Atrocities committed by the US military are plentiful. If you want to pretend that they're isolated instances, then you're just naive.
4) Many atrocities are openly committed by the US military, such as the torture of prisoners in Guantanamo Bay and the various black sites around the world. Many of these people were rounded up on very questionable evidence and obviously weren't given anything close to resembling a fair trial before they got tortured.

So there's a whole list of atrocities that are openly committed by the US military as part of the official policy... and then there are plenty of other atrocities that the soldiers commit when they're on the ground that go virtually unpunished.

I ask you this because you've obviously done some research and concluded that ISIS is evil and needs to be destroyed. OK, that's fine. What about all the other evil stuff? Oh, you're just going to ignore that stuff right? Maybe you think the US is the lesser of the two evils.

All I see is another American, traveling to a country where he doesn't belong, to fight a war he doesn't understand or belong in. Today you think ISIS is the enemy. Tomorrow, ISIS might be allied with the US.

I'm afraid to ask, but did you know that the US was allied with Osama Bin Laden at one point in time? They trained and funded him to fight the Russians. You know those ISIS guys you'll be fighting... they've got US weapons that they were given to fight against Assad in Syria. The guys that you'll be fighting alongside, how do you know that they won't be the "terrorists" in a few years from now? If you join up with these crazy groups in the middle east, you don't really know what you're going to be getting yourself into and whose side you're really on. A lot of the people you'll be fighting alongside don't really like Americans. If you don't like discussing this stuff with me, how are you going to handle talking to someone from the Middle East who is a victim of US imperialism? Ya, you can call me a little bitch or whatever... what are you going to say to a group of people holding AK's when they tell you how US soldiers murdered their wives and children in cold blood? Regardless of what side of this ISIS war these people are on, most of these people still hate the US military (and American citizens).

Saying "some US soldiers committed rapes and murders" may be a factual statement. It's either true or not.

Saying "the US military is just as bad as ISIS" is a political statement.

I'm shocked 27 hasn't banned him already.

just want to point out if he is fighting with the kurds, he will not be fighting along assad's men. completely different groups.

also, you make a lot off generalizations based of isolated incidents
