coins only have monetary value, if we convert that in friends we shouldnt care as its as if saying 100 friends is worth exactly the same as 100 cents in smaller denominations in absolute terms.

The statement would have a bigger impact and meaning if you said I'd rather have two quarters than a hundred cents, meaning you cherish less for other reasons than their absolute value, etc.
