My friends went to college, I went off to serve. When they woke up to decide if they'd go to school or work, I'd already been at work for hours. Their alarms woke them up, my alarms sent me to cover or battle stations. They made plans based on how they felt, I did as the schedule that was put out to me demanded. They couldn't wait to leave their homes, I couldn't wait to get back. I don't think I've ever met someone who was in the forces who joined because they wanted to go and save the world/make it better.

It's almost always people who don't know what they want to do/want training/have limited job options/want to travel/want to shoot stuff/believe the adverts and think they will be off skiing the Alps half the year and on a beach in Cyrpus the other half..
