But I doubt that the lack of racial tension isn't simply indicative of a lack of diversity, or that many European nations, such as France and Germany, do not have greater racial tension than the United States.

It is easy to say that many of the homogeneous nations, such as the Scandi countries, are better at dealing with race, when they simply do not have to. It is like comparing an entire fruit basket to an orange.

America is the most diverse nation in the world, and while our media, politicians, educators, parents, etc... may handle race awkwardly, we still stand as the greatest testament to ethnic tolerance in the history of mankind.

Completely agree on your point that while we tend to handle race awkwardly, we are still amongst the most tolerant in the world (as a whole -- obviously there are some extremists but every country has that as well).

Well I am mixed race. White and Hispanic as It didn't effect me. And all this bull**** about how is a white woman/man going to know how to cut/style/comb a black kids hair is Bull****. (and yes I have heard that as an argument against it). If we are going to outlaw certain ppl to get married and reproduce it should be ignorant racists of all races. We sure as hell could do without them as nations and as a species.

Just wanted to pop into this thread and LOL at whoever said Europeans are so far above Americans. There are some virulent racists in Europe, and in many places it isn't even frowned. In many countries it is socially acceptable to be an open anti-Semite, for instance. I heard more cussing about the filthy Jews in a week in France than I have in my life in the South.

Everywhere has racists. America is not unique, we're just the biggest most important country with tons of minorities and an immigrant culture.

Most people make decisions emotionally and tack on some half-assed logic afterwards, and that includes most of the people who run things. I would think the only question is whether he's over sensitive to kids' needs or trying to justify his inherent racism. I'm just not ready to make that leap.

I was sure you were wrong about this but I looked it up and you're correct. I would have guessed that blacks were a larger group than hispanics and larger than 13%.

It's already been said but the people saying there is less racism in Europe are just plain wrong. Go try being a middle-eastern man in Scandinavia for a week and let me know how that works out.

I've lived in small Danish and Swedish towns and in both of those countries until people knew who I was/heard me speak perfect American English I got some of the nastiest looks I've ever had in my entire life just for looking dark enough to potentially be "perker".
