On the contrary, a significant portion of my life is spent caring for and about other people between my husband, my kids, their significant others, my parents, my MIL, my granddaughter, and others.
Yes, that extends even to randoms, such as other diners in the restaurant. I very plainly stated that this was a rare exception. I was with my husband and not told where we were going until we were within a few miles. The rest of our dinner party was a surprise for me when we arrived at my favorite restaurant. Being able to share her first birthday is something I won't have the opportunity to repeat.
My family members are also not *******s. They considered the risks, her disposition and past behavior in public and made the reservation for 5 PM. We would not impose an unruly 1 year-old on other diners. If necessary, someone would have taken her and left the restaurant.
Rail against badly behaved children in public all you like, but the mere presence of children is not an offense in spite of your sensibilities.
One can be considerate and also a parent, even in non-standard situation.
One can be an inconsiderate individual sans children in a standard situation.
The question is are you considerate of others? Why yes, we are.
I'm confident from the feedback we received that no one suffered due to her presence.

I said I stepped outside the door of the restaurant (next to our table) into the entryway, or walked back to a hallway near the restrooms. There were no parade waves, no lollygagging, or stopping at tables in the dining area.
The mere sight of a woman walking by with a child in her arms! How will we cope!
Please enjoy the fantasy and continue with the nut hugging though.
